I am the proud new owner of a lovely 6 year old IDxcob mare, coloured white/blue, who is absolutely beautiful except her mane and tail are incredibly greasy, to the point where touching them is just really gross. Honestly I have never known anything like it, no horse I have ever known has had anything remotely similar.
If I wash them, the grease is right back a couple of days later. She is otherwise is apparently excellent health and there are no signs of any skin issues. Her coat is also normal, no hint of greasiness there. She is a very sweaty horse, but so is the cob I was sharing before getting her and his mane and tail were always fine.
Does anyone have any idea why this could be, and if there's anything to be done about it?
Thanks in advance!
