I need to by a super tough turnout rug for my cobby welsh d, he's managed to trash his medium weight one so badly its not worth repairing! Which would be the best brand to buy?
I have a similar problem with one of my boys! Rugs last approx a week!
Have always used rambos on other horses as they are very sturdy but didnt want to fork out the money on a "rug trasher"!!!! I relented and I bought him a rambo a few months ago and it has held up completely- touch wood!!!
If you go for a rambo you may need to go for the next size up usually especially if horse has a bit of shoulder. See if you can try someone elses for size!
I usually use weatherbeeta's not really had a problem with them and they seem to fit, he's wrecked a Mark Todd and a Stormbreaker so far. Would definitely consider a rambo, if i can find someones to try first...
What about Fal or Bucas rugs?
sorry to hijack, but was just about to order a rambo for my new chap, he is a 6'0 but should i get him a 6'3 do you think? tried hectors on him which looked a little big, but think he will fill out lots
I would 2nd Rambo or Rhino rugs they seem to fit my big shouldered mare fine, and have been the only rugs, that don't rub at all. She doesn't trash rugs, but her field mate does!!! He has dragged her round the field all winter by his teeth and mounted her a few times too and her rugs are still completely intact
My lad is horrible for trashing rugs, he has trashed every single decent rug I have bought for him including canvas new zeland rugs........I bought him a VERY cheap own brand from our horse market and it has been perfect all year, I am shocked.
Perhaps you should try a cheaper one
But anyways I have had several Masta and Rambo ones and they have been pretty sturdy.
PREMIER EQUESTRIAN! sorry but my t/o arrived in the week, theyve got a sale on and there is a middleweight t/o in it...
I was going to go for a rambo but why bother when these are just as good and cheapoer! and they are made of super ballistic outer material
I only use Fal or rambo. Fal are better for the bigger built I find. Both are really tough, all mine live out in them and if they snag it doesnt rip and keep on going till you have a massive tear. The viking in fal are the best I find, and the rambo excell for cobs. Worth the fortune they cost, tried cheaper and find it false economy. My big cob used to wreck rugs but since I got her a fal which is roomy and comfy for her, she hasnt. Fal terrier isnt so good tho. I have used the amigos, and find them fine for finer built horses, but too tight on neck for the biggies.
I vote for anything by horseware. I have a rhino pony wug, and our shettie has dragged it down fencing and it's still in one piece. The satin linings do tend to go on them.
I bought him a couple of rugs, a shires one, and also a made to measure one. he has ruined both. But the wug is still great, and he's worn it loads.
You do have to go up a size though.
Yes, get a 6'3". They fall a tiny bit short over the quarters if you get the horse's usual size and while they fit all right, don't give that well covered, cuddled up impression that the pictures in the Horseware adverts have. I have found the shoulders fine, but do not have heavier type horses. They are great and stay comfortably in place.
Another vote here for Premier Equine. My Fell has their 1680denier lighweight on over a Snuggy Hoods sweetitch body. She's ripped the lining at the front by leaning over the fence, but the outer is untouched. (The sizing is generous too, whereas I find Horseware don't fit my natives
