Super warm quater sheet recommendations please?

Dug out my exercise rugs, I have a waterproof but very light eight one, An old school Equifleece and by beloved Polypad exercise duo which has seen me though several horses and I love, However, as expected its no good on current horse with current saddle.
His saddle is fitted wide which means everything underneath it has a tendency to slide back unless its shaped and has D velcro. So by the time we got home this morning it had not only started to slide back but was pretty tight and hadn't stayed pulled up into the gullet.
A ride on of any type isn't going to work. I half wonder if i can (or someone can) chop the Polypad into a quarter sheet shape and just re-bind it. I'm hesitant to wreck it though!

So any nice ones to look at?
I've looked at Thermatex... Bit to expensive to be honest!
Harry Hall Protechmasta looks ok I also quite like the Comfort Zone ones *must resist the temptation to get it embroidered- this one will be seen in public :)

Zoeypxo- Interesting to hear from someone who actually has it! How thick is it?
 
for one where we have to keep the back end warm exercising we use a fleece for moderate days and have made our own back warmer for wet and cold ones.

We cut off the back end of a Masta old rug so it is waterproof, lined so warm and has already got the tail flap and filet string rings and string. Then we just cut it to the shape we wanted to fit our saddle (which is not a conventional one) made some holes around the front edge (using the metal rings you get for tarpaulins) tied strings onto them and then tied the strings onto the saddle. You can cut the front to whatever shape you want so you can ride on it, have it under your legs or just stop at the back of the saddle and thread it through the girth.. The back of the rug is already shaped with darts etc from it's original use.

cost was a bit of thread and a half a dozen rings. Another use for a redundant rug so brownie points for recycling as well. :D:D:D

Looking at the one i posted a link to above that thought had crossed my mind!!! I'm not a keeper of stuff sadly so don't have old rugs. Well done though! very clever

Amymay, do you have any idea if they come up huge?
 
Thermatex or I have the Rambo stripe wrap round fleece ones and they are double thickness compared to others, although mine are old so they may have got thinner now.

Look on ebay or Facebook I got mine for a fraction of the cost on ebay.

I know mine are really thick as I've got caught out in heavy rain and the rain never went though, whereas my friends fleece was absolutely soaked through.
 
I'd definitely recommend one of the wicking / knitted / Thermatex type exercise rugs as I think they mould to fit the quarters so well and keep the horse's quarters very warm, even when it's raining.

I had a Thermatex exercise sheet and a Weatherbeeta Thermocell quarter sheet, and thought the Weatherbeeta stayed in place better and didn't slip.

ETA. Looking at the photo, I'm sure the one I had had plastic buckles attaching it to the girth straps, but this version has velcro straps.
 
My best one is an equafleece quarter sheet. Hi viz, warm, breathable, no rustle / flap, waterproof, has a belly tie so never moves. Amazing!

Also like the thermatex copy quarter sheet but it’s not water proof snd lacks the belly strap if it’s very windy.
 
Weatherbeeta have a Thermatex style quarter sheet for around £50? I know not the same but I was given a Mark Todd thermatex style rug years ago and although its not the official one its been absolutely fantastic and has lasted years

I have found a few 4’6 ones. A quarter sheet type and wrap round Nordic.

Mine are made by this lady, i have one that is just a hi viz water proof one, one hi viz with fleece lining and one in a thermotex type material. All in colours i have chosen and the fleecey hi viz has reflective motifs on it that really shine. Her FB page os good for showing how it looks on customera horses.

Its thick enough that my horse is often too hot in it so i dont actually get much use out of it , but it looks smart

This, i have 2 one a bright neon pink so doubles up as hi vis. Another one is a Catago Fir tech quarter sheet. I use the rug and can can confirm they are very warm.

The 4'6" is a little generous on my tb who takes a 6'3 to 6'6" rug but completely usable. It depends on whether you want it off the bum as some people prefer or don't mind a couple of inches hanging over the tail.

Mine are neon pink with neon orange binding 😁 and the other is in the dositall fabric burgandy and gold trim

I have been eyeing up the catago ones as well.

Get a thermatex, they are the best! There is a second hand selling page on facebook and always loads on there. They come up small though so ignore the size guide on the website!

They always used to do a sale in November where they sell them for £40 but im not sure if that will happen this year with them going into administration…I got ours on there last year in the sale x
