Super_Kat's thought for the night

Feel sorry for them - they are clearly suffering tunnel vision and are probably just green with envy and selfish to boot!!!

Where would they get all the decent second hand bargains of 'posh stuff' from Ebay if it were not for those who have spendaholic moments!

And if people want to go out and buy top of the range tack to go to a few local shows and hack why does that start a big chain of snide remarks about what stuff you have for you and your horse. It drives me insane!

[/ QUOTE ]

That'll be me then - LOL!!!
I have 2 riding horses, ride as and when, and when I do its a mooch round the lanes and fields. May do the odd show this year

but spend on my horses as if they were comp horses. I see no difference. Whether you're competing or hacking you need good quality stuff that fits and is comfy.
Get fed up of morons who think a horse sat in a field or used for hacking only is a waste and not worth spending any money on! A waste of what, I'd like to know. My cobbie's are both capable of doing so much more but I can't be arsed so they never will -they won't lose any sleep!

FeuFolet - I wish my horses were well dressed! I had to jump yesterday in a crusty, ancient dressage saddle

But if you have nice equipment and go and do crap at a show a least you look good

But in saying all the gear and no idea how do people know that those riders aren't having lessons with Robert Whitaker or something, after all, I think everyone is crap at spome point.

Don't mean to be rude but how do you know that the people with "all the gear" haven't had any training? I've had an instructor for years but it probably doesn't show!! I am a talentless oik at the end of the day but I still want to "have a go".

[/ QUOTE ]

I dont know....... and Im sure youre not a talentless oik. However, the *saying* doesnt mean you shouldnt have a go - I didnt imply that - its just a saying....

Equally, if youve had an instructor for years and you feel that youre not improving why dont you change? (this isnt necessarily aimed at you).

I had one trainer who gelled with one horse i had, she used to go mad that i only had 2 numnahs for 3 phases at a ODE.
When i bought Winston this trainer and I didnt work out, just because her methods didnt work for this horse = so i changed. This trainer is completely different and we work very well together (makes things far less complicated) he went mad at me buying unnecessary numnahs, he felt one numnah should do all 3 phases of a ODE *shakes head

This from someone tho who spends a fortune on herbal remedies, expensive equissage machine and butet saddles for his horses but wears a tatty old hacking jackets, xc silk and body protector - where as the gear i have is smart with the limited budget i have.

This all the gear and no idea stuff, is just another wonderful way the bitchy horseworld has of pigeon holeing and labelling others to make oneself feel better! IMO IF one can afford it, and who's to say that all the 'gear' hasn't come 2nd hand off ebay, then you are actually saving money/time, as quality lasts - generally!!!

If I won the lottery tomorrow my horses would have the very best of everything!! I'd buy the snaziest lorry around and put my 2 hairy cobs in it and rock up at all the shows. Put my extremely expensive tack on, ride around doing not alot and go again!!...just cos I could...if I could be arsed of course

If you've got the dosh and its what you wanna do then do it. Why not?

I agree with you Kat. There is a lady on my yard who thinks I have far to much for my horses and I spend far too much on them, because I had to buy some new rugs for Alisha this year - I had no 6'6 at all and all Jig's 6'3s were far to small. I think she's probably jealous, as all her rugs are cheap 2nd hand ones (nothing wrong with that IMO) but i would rather spend a decent amount on a rug that I know will last her several winters. Sorry probably makes no sense at all!
ETA: I have just bought Jigsaw a brand new Albion K2 jumping saddle and he will probably go out 7 or 8 times if that this year, but I love him so much that I want him to have the best!

I completely agree with you.

Although I do compete I see nothing wrong with people buying their horses nice stuff just for hacking etc. My mum just hacks our veteran and that is perfectly fine.

At the end of the day, don't let it bother you - as there is always going to be someone with an opinion about you or the horse no matter what you do. If you want to hack around the block once in a blue moon with a diamante encrusted Stubben bridle & saddle, then do it. If you can afford it. If you want to compete affliated with second hack synthetic tack, then do so

I'd love to kit our horse's out with brand spanking new top of the range tack and equipment ... but we just can't afford to & so we make do with what we have. Which is perfectly good tack, rugs & equipment which hasn't cost an arm or a leg & so we can still afford to do what we want to with our horses ... be that competing or going for a blast on the beach

The one thing that does annoy me is when people say 'I buy X, Y or Z (usually very expensive) brand for my dobbin as I love it' & insunuate that those who can't afford to do that love their horse any less. It's sadly a case of money doesn't grow on trees!
