So, trying to cut a long story short, yesterday our new TB had a nasty accident in the field. She had her dinner but seemed to be getting a little agitated in the field as we were all up there pottering around, so I assume by us hovering around she was expecting another meal! (very food orientated lady she is!!) ... She was doing laps of the field, just walking and seemed chilled.. Then our old boy decided to have a nibble on her bottom which set her off!

She galloped around the field then galloped full pelt towards the gate, forgetting she has breaks and that the ground is like a mudslide! She mashed straight through the gate (thank god she didn't impale herself or break a leg).. We caught her found some nice gashes up both back legs and a nasty puncture wound in her back fetlock. We cleaned her up, put some derma gel and turned her back out.

Now what I'm confused about is how little damage is done.. Since the accident she has had no heat or swelling whatsoever, no lameness in her legs... The tiniest bit stiff but that's about it. The cuts also seem to be healing over more than I would expect. Does my girl have super natural powers or would you not expect much swelling etc.. And it's just the norm?!

Thank you for getting through this essay!

infections in wounds take 3 days to show their face, however according to a vet i know he did say that a healthier horse does heal more quickly than one whose immune system is not that good, also movement in the field will help with keeping filling etc down but keep an eye you are not past the gate yet.
