supermarket garlic

While at my yard today i noticed one of the women feeding her 4 horses garlic powder from the local supermarket. I asked if she thinks it works and she said it seems to do the same as the garlic she used to buy from the local saddlery. Does anyone on here use the same supermarket garlic or know anyone who does.

I use garlic bought from a shop that sells chinese/thai ingredients. Its the granule type rather than the powder and is no difference from what you can get at the local horse store and much cheaper.

I did the opposite to this in a totally random, hadn't been shopping for ages sort of way!

Had run out of garlic in the house, so lobbed in some of the horses granules to the recipe lol!

Like the idea of going to the chinese wholesalers though - hadn't thought of that before

i've used supermarket garlic for my 5 horses for the last few years, works out loads cheaper than buying it from the saddlery.

We tend to buy the powder version in blulk from Makro or other wholsesalers or supermarket and its the same stuff as the saddlery sells

I actually used to buy fresh garlic and crush the cloves direct into the horses feeds. Was about 20 years ago and now cannot be bothered. Makes my hands smell for days.

But i don't see any reason why you cannot use Supermarket Garlic

Garlic is garlic - if it is fit for humans it is certainly fit for horses...

There has been recent research to say that Garlic can irritate the stomach lining in horses with ulcers and can sometimes cause decreases in red blood cell count causing anaemia with horses that are unaffected by ulcers. I've stopped feeding it every day now. So if you do use it, use it with caution.
