We took Fitz (Burgie to his close friends) out today to do another couple of novices in hope of finishing off his winter qualification at Novice open. Only needed 3 more points in a qualifier but he has been rather full of himself lately, and not very cooperative at the last outing we had, ended up retiring from the last test as he was WILD. So he has been in boot camp this week and has been great.

He was super in the warm up and didnt react to the other horses or people, or any unnecessary noises, made it into the arena without any 0-60 moments and he knuckled down and did a cracking test. Rode the trot work really forwards as think the judges werent liking the collection at this level and he needs to be almost in too big a trot to get the marks he should.

Second test was great, just a bit abrupt into the walk transitions as he was so forwards they werent the most elegant! Plus the walk work could still be better, as he isnt quite letting go and stretching in a test yet.

Ended up winning both classes with 76 and 72% :) so all qualified for the winters and hopefully no more novices for us. (if I have to ride 38 again I might die, although think it might be the regional test)

Not brill pics from F514 as light was terrible, and she was quite poorly, we went out the night before and only had 2 1/2 hours sleep....

Wow, amazing scores and fantastic partnership. Any hints on how to calm down the 0-60 moments? We got 4's for our mediums the other day at Milton because Nickel just took off, then decided that counter canter was just sooo boring so did a flying change instead despite me half halting to rebalance him like crazy!

Ahhh that's not too shabby! Cant remebe rif you are on the hunt for Q points or not?

I liked the judge - pretty spot on with Burgie's comments and marked him down where she should. Just happened to also mark up where she should too!

We have a contingency Arena UK date, but it is during the week so will be tricky....

Just haven't been to many comps that go above Elem, so Chunks has been a bit ignored this season. That and the fact he is concentrating very hard on co-coordinating his back legs with his fronts in Ze Flyin' Changez... :D

I think it is good to have something to focus on in the winter so nice to Q. Good luck :)

MH suffered the same.....

I think total lack of sleep contributed to her success on Sunday! I think you have to just go out and enjoy it and see what happens.

I always said I wouldn't do winters anymore as I hate the cold.....poor little Cob gets ignored in Dec/Jan in favor of me hibernating in the warm! :D
