Has anyone found a calming supplement that actually works?

I am bringing my horse back into work after 7 months off and want something just to calm her nerves a little bit when I start hacking her out again & to help her concentrate.

I have been recommended cool, calm & collected, has anyone had experience of using this?

Thanks in advance.

Not heard of that- only the feed? ^^

I add Equine America's Magnitude into my horses feed. Works out at £20 per 6months. I must say i didn't notice a difference at all at first, but continued using it as i'd bought it already. After the 6 months was nearly up, she was becoming more and more relaxed. So i've continued to use it :) She is much more 'chilled' when schooling.

I do guess though it depends on your reasons for use.

My mare is completely non-spooky or sharp etc- my reason for use was that she took a little longer than I wonted to fully relax in the school than I wanted.

The supplement could have also caused nothing- it could have just been her schooling and me thinking its the supplement- i'll never know!

Naf Magic worked wonders on my friends horse- but not a slight difference on another friends. I think with calmers it's just trail & error :)

The ones that actually do work are - understandably -banned in competition. But if you just want it for bringing her back look for anything with Valerian in it. Or ask your vet for something like sedalin.

We're another one Magic didn't touch but we got good results from D&H's Placid if you want to stay competition legal.

I have a recent post in here re Cool Calm and Collected that I am using at present (4 weeks into it) and cannot recommend it enough. Have a look at my post as I've described the difference it has made over the weeks.

Thanks everyone for replying. I have emailed the people at cool calm and collected and they have been extremely helpful so I'm going to give that a try:)

Yes magic calmer highly recommend it

I am not convinced by any Calmers. I think it is all down to lots of Schooling,a calm stable environment with sensible / calm management and the correct feed for the horse and its work.

There is science behind magnesium being useful as a calmer BUT this is only if the horse is magnesium deficient.

It does definitely seem to be trial and error and I sometimes wonder if the rider is calmer - resulting in a calmer horse - if they think the calmer is working ?
