This has been done to death and I've tried searching the forum but only finding older threads!

My mare gets bouts of FWS from haylage through winter. For various reasons, she has to be fed haylage due to storage, asthma history, delivery to the yard, access etc.

I was looking at Think Pink as I saw it recommended somewhere but I'm not getting a reply from the company.

A supplement with added vits/mins is a bonus but not essential.

Any recommendations please?

Protexin Gut Sponge. It's made a huge difference to mine.

I was going to put mine on that but someone (who has a lot more experience than me) said Psyllium husk is essentially the same thing but a lot cheaper.
Thanks both. I was looking at Psyllium husk but then I was worried that it absorbs water? My mare doesn't drink very much so has to have soups to avoid impaction colic and I worried that this might make things worse?

What changed my pony’s mild ( by comparison to what I’ve read about on HHO ) symptoms was simply swapping haylage for hay. If your mare doesn’t drink enough would soaked hay be possible. I’m not clear on that from your post, sorry.
I may have been the one who mentioned NAF Pink. I use The Senior version as a general vitamin and mineral supplement because it has gut and arthritis friendly things in it. My pony is slightly arthritic and has had ulcers.

This is my thread about it.

My old boy has to have haylage for the same reasons as your horse. Dare not ever try hay again! The winter faecal water syndrome thread is still relevant, if you want to plough through it. Mine is much improved on his chopped and soaked food diet. We haven't really hit winter yet when the grass disappears completely, but he is tolerating his maintenance diet well at the moment and also having Silvermoor Veteran haylage, mixed with Forest Fold, which is a dry, wrapped haylage produced locally. Do you think it would be worth having an Equibiome gut analysis done, to see if any supplements would help with the impaction issues? Had one done a couple of years ago which pointed towards more diversity being needed, and more forage.

Thank you, I will have a look!
I can't feed any chaff due to diastemas so it's soupy mash only of fast fibre and grass nuts. The reason she had impaction colic was because she didn't want to drink the cold water during winter which I hadn't realised.🤦‍♀️ She now has soups! It's thankfully only happened the once.

Thank you. I'll have a look through that thread.
I can't get hay in unfortunately.

I have spoken to NAF who recommended GastriAid but I saw that Brinicombe did Think Pink which is essentially the same as NAF's In The Pink but without the extra fillers. It does claim to help with excess acid as well as providing vits/mins but I'm not sure whether to try something just purely based on digestion without the added balancer.

Just seen your post including not drinking when the water is cold. I expect you are aware of putting a little warm water in the water trug?
I was recommended NAF GastriAid by the vet’s after my pony’s ulcer treatment and then ‘downgraded’ to Pink Senior after about 6 months.

Mine is on soaked grass nuts and fast fibre. Supplements are salt, oily herbs, arthritis supplement and boswellia. I know you changed to hay which may have had a big effect but saw you had some success with the senior pink powder. Maybe I will try the normal one as I don't need the added joint support.

It's an automatic trough unfortunately and they live out. A water bucket wouldn't last 5 minutes with the youngster! I do offer separate warm water for her but the haylage and mashes seem to have helped with water intake.
She hasn't had ulcers now for I think maybe 7 years? So probably don't need the GastriAid. Hmm, if they recommend the pink powder, maybe it's worth trying the Brinicombe Think Pink and it's half the price.

Our ponies are on very similar diets. Now mine is on hay, a little Allen and Page Fast Fibre which holds salt, NAF Senior Pink and boswellia. He is turned out on days in winter and nights in summer. I thought of oily herbs if he had not improved.
