Supplement for laminitis which helps?

Pony still has lami. She got a lot better but has gone a bit down hill again in the last week. Which Im sure is down to the fact I have to give her this years hay. I managed to get a little bit of last years hay which is when she perked up, but ran out and even though Ive been putting out adverts everywhere and desperately asking everyone I know if anybody has any old hay for me to buy, I have none so its either she gets our new hay or starves! Im sure this is what is holding her back as this hay is just too good for her.

What do I do though?! She's on Top Spec Anti Lam and a basic lami approved chaff. Are there any supplements which might help WHILST they have lami? (rather than most which try to keep it away - like Founder Guard etc.)?

And anything else which might help her right now? She's on an all round vit & min supplement as well. Ive heard stuff like Apple Cider Vinegar can help somehow? Basically I want anything which might help lower her sugar levels! ive cut out all sugery things like carrots etc.
 
When was she last X-rayed?? Could there be continuing changes to the pedal bone rather than a 'fresh' onset of Laminitis?
 
If you can't get the right hay then have you considered feeding her HiFi Lite or Spiller's Happy Hoof as a hay replacement? Both are Laminitis Trust approved and therefore you can be sure you are controlling the soluble carbohydrate in her diet.
 
Little man hasnt had Lami, but was at risk due to his weight. I have him on Hi Fi lite, and that combined with a little of this years hay (I have to use that too) has kept any problems at bay. he's even lost a little weight which is a bonus.
 
I agree re old hay, if you cant get any try mixing some ok quality straw with new hay so not as much content. Also hifi lite if this is no good. Farrier's formula is a good additive as helps with hoof/laminae quality and also happens to work as a liver protectant.
 
Whereabouts in UK are you - as we have a few bales of last year's hay that we are keen to give away. Soaking the new hay would help a bit. Feedmark do a supplement that is supposed to help increase the blood supply to the damaged tissues of the feet. Otherwise Formula4Feet is excellent in helping the feet and their website is very good re. laminitis. But you don't need a vit & min supplement as well. Is she stabled on a deep bed? Does she have remedial shoeing with heel support? I know just how frustrating it is as I have a pony with Cushings and he had a terrible bout of laminitis last winter, but with strict management and remedial shoeing, he is ok now (fingers firmly crossed)
 
I used Farriers Formula when my pony had lami. I am sure it did a terrific job and it combined with trims every 3 or 4 days returned her foot to normal eventually.

My lammi prone girl gets happy hoof,plus garlic,cod liver oil and laminaze 5* by naf, she has been lammi free this year now she is back with me,what with keeping weight down and that, i have found laminaze 5* very good so far though,recommend it

Sorry to hear your poor girlie has been suffering - I agree that it is probably this year's hay that is the cause - if you soak it for 24 hours it will leach out all the nutrients and should be safe to feed. Antilam is designed for ponies suffering from laminitis so would continue to feed this rather than change to anything else and risk upsetting her hindgut even more (the new hay has probably made her hindgut acidic which has triggered the laminitis). If you don't want to feed soaked hay, you could offer HiFi Lite as an alternative - it's important to keep the fibre levels up.

Thanks everyone - will try soaking her hay to see if that helps (such a waste of lovely nice hay though!!). Ive had other pony on Farriers Forumla in the past but Ive found she doesnt have bad feet - the farrier has said her feet are fine and he cant understand whats up with her because he thinks she looks generally stiff rather than lami sore.

I guess I could use Happy Hoof or something as a hay replacer but she loves it so I think she'd simply eat the whole lot in one go..... and its a very expensive way of doing it really.

She's not really bad, just pottery. Its just that she got so much better when on rubbish hay but when I ran out I had to put her on new stuff and now she's gone pottery again. Getting really annoying!!
 
My parents have a pony who has had lami , mum called the lamintis helpline/equilife people and they have been brilliant , he gets the equilife supplement and Hi Fi Lite. All his hay is soaked and he is allowed to have his hay ad-lib now.

He is still slightly stiff as a result we think of being in so long so he is coming to stay with us as we have a small indoor school which he can go out in for a leg stretch every day.
