I am wondering if I should put my mare on a supplement to help when she is in season. I am wary of putting her on something as I don't like to pump her full of too much supplements.

When she is in season she is very distracted and fidgety. She squirts at any gelding that looks at her and is very distracted when riding.

I wouldn't mind just putting up with it but I am hoping to compete over summer and I am worried that she will be even worse in a strange place if she happens to be in season at a competition.

Any reccomendations for a more natural way to ease her symptoms?

Give Agnus Castus a try, you can get it on eBay quite cheaply and is the main ingredient in most hormone supplements.

I feed it to my mare, it reduced the squirty behaviour but I either need to feed more (the amounts are quite large and it tastes peppery so can be hard to increase) or she's beyond help!

Oestress works a treat, it's by NAF I think. My last mare was an absolute nightmare, sounds exactly like yours! It calmed her down significantly :)

I use Frisky Mare or Frisky Mare Plus (depending on how stroppy she's being, ha) by Global Herbs. It's all natural and seems to work for my mare, £21 for the normal or £26 for a tub of the plus and will last about 6 weeks on 1.5 scoops a day. x
