Do any of you feed a supplement to support a healthy coat? My horse Fred has always had an itchy tendancy (no sweet itch, had vets take skin samples for various tests etc, and no definate problem - he just says he is an itcy horse!)

Anyway, his skin is sometimes scurfy, mostly greasy. He is bathed when he needs it (not too often, though, don't want to strip the coat of oils he needs). He is fed Alfa A every day.

Was just wondering if you think a feed supplement especially for skin would work and did you have any make/brand you'd recommend. Had heard Feedmark do a good skin supplement, but don't know which company is best really.

thanks

My horse gets itchy in the summer. Am currently trying out skratch by global herbs.

He is still a bit itchy, but no unbearably so after about a month, itching has definitely reduced a lot.

There is one by NAF hooof and hide I think

my cob was very itchy and scurfy, i started to feed him feedmarks equidermis plus, about a month ago, and what a difference it as made, he now as a really shiny non scurfy coat, which looks fantastic, would highly recomend it,

Hi
I use equine complete 365. It is an alround supplement but has improved my sensitive mares skin no end. You can only buy on the net. Check out their web page. Equine Complete.
Or Global Herbs Skin Rite

i use dengie's joint&condition oil, which is 100%hemp oil. it is a good source of omegas, but more importantly it is the right type of omega, and one of a very few sources that contain GLA - which is known to relieve the allergic itch reaction. Other sources are starflower and primrose oil.... I swear by it, my horse has a full tail this year

I have used hilton herbs top coat for horses with skin problems before, it works really well. I had a horse that kept getting lymphangitis around September time due to the mites around at that time of year and it cured that. Also used to look after a pony with sweet itch and it worked wonders on him too.
