So my young horse is out of action due to stifle surgery and they have announced that Stafford ODE in July is the last one ever! So my other horse has come out of competitive retirement (she is 14) and is entered for the BE80!!!

I competed her at BE100 until last July when I had a couple of stops (she never stopped) so I decided to stop competing her and bring my youngster on. She has been in work, jumping at home and fast work on the beach so she will be fit enough but I was wondering what supplements might help her.

I don't usually feed supplements so would there be an all round soundness supplement you could recommend?

Many thanks :)

I don't think there is a "soundness supplement". It's just good, careful management. Getting the horse fit correctly, keeping it fit, keeping an eye on the type of ground you run on, studs when needed, feeding correctly to the horse's needs, regularly, good correct farriery.

Plus BE80 is pretty small, if she was doing 100 last year she is unlikely to be taxed by it IMHO. Don't hammer her around, take it steady, be sensible. Just common sense, not special supplements.

Hi Chestnut Cob,

Yep getting all that. :) I've evented her for the past 8 years so I know she will be fit enough.....I was just thinking about old age ;) I know I feel worse the older I'm getting :) I would have given her something like Vetroflex but my trade supplier has stopped selling it and I can't afford full price!!! Just wondered whether there was something else along those lines...... :) :)
