I spoke to the saracen horse feeds nutritionist over the phone. She claimed that rite-trac can cure ulcers as effectively as gastrogard but in a different way by coating the stomach and thickening the gut mucus. (Along those lines im not quoting her exact words) Just pondering over this statement really and wondered what peoples opinions are on this?

Should add... My horse is currently on gastrogard and i am looking for a supplement to put her on as i taper off the gastrogard.

Load of tosh if you ask me. Gastro Gard did the job for me. I have been using Equisure for the hind gut (Rite - trace includes Equisure) and it has done nothing - a probiotic the vet gave me had more effect.

Rite trac only works on hind gut ulcers. .

Rite trac also has equishure in which is supposedly for the hindgut but rite trac itself is targeted at the whole digestive tract.

There is such a huge market for ulcer supplements now its boggling my brain! This is my horses second course of GG and im gutted she got them again as I thought her management was completely ulcer friendly. Except she has fast fibre with hay chopped in before work as Alfafa doesn't agree with her.

No experience of Ritetrac, but I do know that Equishure makes a big difference to my horse & I use it alongside a low dose of GG. Some horses, no matter how good their management, just seem horribly prone to ulcers :(

My equine vet advised against gastrogard for mine. He only had a mild case of ulcers and the vet advised GG can sometimes do more harm in these cases as it upsets the gut flora.
Mine is out 24/7 fed healthy tummy and Pro-Equine ulcer soothe and is doing loads better. I like the ulcer soothe as it is all natural ingredients including slippery elm, aloe, sea buckthorn etc. Which also helps with stress. I like the healthy tummy as it includes the protexin without needing a separate supplement. It is alfalfa though, luckily mine does not have an intolerance to it.

I don't have much experience with any of the supplements named above however my mare has just recovered from Ulcers, when first scoped 6 weeks ago her stomach was red blotchy and inflamed with several ulcers of varying degrees, My vet started her on a course of Omeprazole(Peptizole) full syringe once daily for 2 weeks, 1/2 syringe daily for 4 weeks as well as being a trial case for a new ulcer specific supplement from the makers of Equinox - She was scoped again on Monday and there was no sign of any ulcers - Nothing - the stomach was a healthy pink all over! As a preventative in the next couple of months shes to finish the trial supplement before moving onto another supplement branded by our vets which acts to line the stomach to help prevent ulcers re-occuring and once that is finished she can go back onto a maintenance dose of Equinox.

If you haven't heard of Equinox i really reccommend you take a look - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Equinox-Equine-Supplement-Supplies-in-UK/1572238803014773?fref=ts & http://www.yarrowiaequinox.pl/en - this product has only been available to buy in the UK for c.6 weeks and the testimonials really do speak for them selves! Its an all natural supplement no nasty chemicals and was produced/ discovered by a team of scientists looking for a way to extract natural fat from yeast which is usually lost in other yeast based supplements. Whilst it is relatively new in the UK, It has a lot of backing in the US and Europe where it has been available for some time.
