My niece’s old pony is 18 and is currently in the early stages of arthritis. He lives out 24/7 (with the exception of extreme weather) and is a very well doer. He doesn’t really jump anymore (maybe small jumps with the younger kids) but she still hacks him out to keep him ticking as he loves his job, and he does some flatwork maybe once or twice a week in the arena.

He’s not unhappy in any way or very lame but I want to start including something in his feed to help him out - especially on those days where he is a bit stiffer or is feeling a bit tight.

There’s so many buzzwords like glucosamine, MSM, devils claw - some supplements have all of the above, some have a few. I’m just wondering which supplements or combination of supplements you have found work best for your horse? Just want to know what people recommend as I’m not sure which are the best, or if certain ones can be used together, etc.

Riaflex complete is fantastic, and boswellia, but make sure it’s at least 65% acidic content.
I also had great success with cartophen injections for one of our minis, made a massive difference to her after she had a long spell of box rest.

I started my girl with NAF Glucosamine 10000 Plus with MSM but now she is 22 and needed something stronger so she’s on Betta life joint supplement and I cannot recommend it enough
After researching what you need and the actual amounts it’s needed Betta life is the only one that did all she needed in the right amounts.

Too many give way less than needed
Discovered that NAF Glucosamine 10000 Plus with MSM even doesn’t give enough after the loading dose is done. But did help her when she didn’t need much

Now she’s running around like a 4yo again after starting to get stiff

I have just started my horse with nutraquin+. He has diagnosed arthritis with a flare. I have previously thought of joint supplements but there is so much choice. The vets suggested this as 2 of them at the practice use it and have seen good results. So it's worth a go. It's £70 a pot which ATM is scary as it lasts 2 weeks but after the loading dose it goes to 1/6 of that dose so much more doable.

This is the graph that science supplements published. Actually I screen shotted it from HHO as i couldn’t find it on the SS website. I use their flexability professional - but I have been looking at the feeding instructions and the numbers on this graph look more like their high dose rate (5 scoops/ day ) though the title states the maintenance dose rate .

I have emailed them to clarify and will report back.

No reply as yet - have emailed them again!

If they have incorrectly quoted loading dose values then the feed mark supplement looks like it has the highest amounts of ingredients
