Hey, I'm looking for some info and any experinces of using supplements for mares is season. My mare goes a bit loopy when in season, she is easy enough to handle but can be a bit more agitated when on the yard herself, but the main problem with her is she likes to jump out her field when in season. She doesn't do this at any other time but the twice she has since I've owned her she has caused damage to herself. The first time she caught her front leg in the barbed wire and was left with a nasty cut. This time she tried to jump the gate and ended up with her back legs through the gate, sher has cut one leg quite badly and had swelling and lamness in the other. The YO saw her do it this time and said one minute she was just standing there next she was jumping the gate, apart from jumping out her field she isn't really that marish when in season but just a bit jumpy and unsettled when not with the other horses.

I've been looking at the supplements and there is quite a few so was looking for some recommendations and peoples experinces of using them.
Thanks Karen x

TBH, there ISN'T a supplement that stops bad behaviour that is due to oestrus! Your mare's only problem - it would appear - is that she has very strong reproductive instincts (and is a horny little Madam! :D)

The only thing that will END this problem is Regumate - so she doesn't come into season (and therefore doesn't get desperate to find a mate!) Or you could talk to your vet about having a marble inserted in the uterus - if it works (and it doesn't work on all) - it makes them THINK they're in foal so they don't come into season. There's a useful article about it - http://www.equinechronicle.com/health/equine-care/methods-to-keep-mares-out-of-heat.html
