I have a horse with mild shivers in his right hind and I just wondered if anyone has recommendations for supplements to help with this? He is on low sugar starch diet with plenty of turnout. Many thanks!

I know they've now proved shivers isn't related to EPSM, but you could still try natural vitamin E supplementation. Its a good antioxidant and supports muscles so it might help.

Vit E and Selenium are often used. There is some evidence that maintaining a correct serum Vit E can slow progression - but that over supplementation has no additional effect. I can't see anything to suggest that Calcium is of assistance - but I absolutely understand the need to do something! Sadly shivers is a neurological disorder so nothing is going to make any difference long term. I'm sorry OP - the prognosis is short and not positive.

Has your vet mentioned testing for Vit E levels?
