My boy has a particulary nasty bout of mud fever or some such like condition (vet booked to see him), following someones suggestion am wondering if its vasculitis (certainly looks like it could be, its oozing blood), but will see what vet says.

He also developed cellulitis from a pretty innocent cut a few months ago, and so I am wondering if he is just cr*p at 'fixing' himself. If he gets a little nick on a leg, it never apepars to actually heal, just stays there for ages.

Does anyone know of any supplement I can feed to give him a boost?

Propell and red cell are good boosters, and certainly work well on horses following non-specific viruses.

Not sure whether the boost of iron would be suitable in your horses condition - do you know if they have a low white cell count?

As Taylored Equestrian says - Aloe Vera

Very good article on it re: Louise Bell's Out of Sight in last weeks H&H, you might be able to find it on here somewhere

I am another for the aloe vera, must admit I used to think 'this herbal stuff' was a load of rubbish, however the juice worked a treat on more than one occasion for my old horse

used aloe vera liquid from Holland and Barrett on a horse with a low white blood cell count vet was impressed how it helped him pick up.

I like Equiforms equicell, it helped my old pony over a sinus infection. It wasn't getting worse but it wasn't getting better- she just didn't seem to be able to throw it off, I gave her 2 weeks of the equicell and it cleared, obv this could be natural but I still really rate it.

I feed my chap 100ml a day did a search online and that was the average affordable amount recommended.

My horse is recovering from a hobday and tie back operation, the vet came out today to remove his staples and remarked how well he is healing. ( not sure if that is to do with the aloe vera though although will continue feeding it incase )
