I've had mares for a number of years and been lucky in the fact they weren't mareish/ever even showed they were in season really but I now have a new mare for my daughter who makes it known to all the geldings when she is in season! My friend has used Improvac on her mare with great results but I don't want to go down that route just yet but wondering if anyone has had good results with anything? Just to help calm the seasons down more than anything. I was considering Oestress....

I had until recently a beautiful ID mare who was very mare-y. I tried a range of stuff, for her the best was Hormonise which is basically just liquid agnus castus/chaste tree berry on its own. Seems each horse is different though as I've seen others have good results with raspberry leaves, Oestress, and various others.

Oestress liquid is brilliant for my mare, I’d recommend it. It’s a case of try and see what works as what works for one may not work so well for others x

Im about to try Equine America No More Moods on my very randy mare. She only does it when I ride with my friend who has a gelding. At home in the school or hacking on our own you would not know she was in season. Also this is the first time she has been like it, Im hoping the liquid chaste berry will help.

Agnus Castus - for in-season moody, temperamental mares. Support for horses and ponies experiencing cushing's disease, and for rigged geldings. it's a highly effective herb which used to be given to the residents of convents & monasteries to suppress libido. A customer once asked me if it worked for husbands; another standing nearby said it worked for her! John@ Gravenhorse
PS you need the powder - not the whole berries which aren't digestible - & less expensive than liquids.

My mare is very hormonal, and also very picky with her food. She won’t touch powder agnus castus so I’m desperate for any other suggestions

The moody mare on my yard gets get Sassy Mare which has helped loads. Unfortunately she's also just tested positive for PSSM which is probably the cause of her behaviour. Worth testing for imo.

Oestress can help take the edge off for some mares worth a try! Magnesium calmers (like NAF Magic or TopSpec Calmer) might also take the shine off her seasons without going full Improvac. If she’s really hormonal, raspberry leaf supplements (like Global Herbs Mare Mood) are another gentle option.
