Hiya, I am back again!!! A few of you will know I have been away for a while as I have had a few operations in hospital on my leg which I broke last year. In the mean time I have been doing a bit of dressage on my youngsters but by the end of september I will be able to jump decent tracks again and I cannot wait!!! Now the thing is I have got quite used to my isabell and jaguar dressage saddles which I feel very secure and "stuck" into!!! I feel my legs are wrapping round them and I almost have a seat belt on LOL!!!

I was just wondering if anybody knows or has had any experience of any really good supportive jumping saddles. I have competed at all the BSJA finals and have jumped upto 1.50m level before so I am not a complete retard but I just feel a little out in the open sat on top of a very close-contact jumping saddle after I have got accustomed to the homely feel of a deep-seated dressage saddle!!! I am quite small, only 5'1 and a bit and all my horse's are 16.1-17.2 warmbloods so it is hard to find a saddle for both extremes!!! I have ridden in lot's of jumping saddles before including pessoa's and amerigo's etc. but they have all been very close-contact with small knee-rolls and very forward cut. I understand that no saddle will help you stay on but I feel something with a deeper seat and knee-rolls may help, what do you think? It needs to be forward cut as I will be jumping at 1.20m+ on quite exhuberent youngsters that have missed their jumping!!!

So please help, if you have any ideas I will probably be ok once I get back into the swing of things but I am just feeling a little wobbly after 6 months of hardly any jumping!!!

the new jefferies f1 saddle i find is good
it has a medium seat which gives you the freedom but keeps you in
it has managed to keep me in so far!
it also has ajustable knee blocks which is good for the likes of us with short legs

Look at the Albions something like a K2 will lock you in tight. I loathe them for the reasons you have mentioned (I love close contact) so there is a high chance they will be ideal for you. My friend has one for all the reasons you have stated.

I have short legs and the best saddle I have ever jumped in was a Stubben CS. Fantastically secure seat due to the placing of the large front knee blocks. It put me in exactly the correct position and I suddenly developed masses of confidence! I have also tried a Kieffer Norbert Koof AT which literally locked me into position, in some ways it felt too secure (might not have been able to get off quick in an emergency!). I also have trouble with close contact saddles, had a Prestige Paris D for a while but it just didn't give me enough support, although I am now after a Prestige Eventing saddle as it has large adjustable knee blocks.

Thanx for the replies these are great!! I had looked at the albion kontrol but was a little put off by the weight of the saddle? I was also looking at the stubben although some people have said they can be supportive but uncomfortable/hard? The Keiffer jumping saddles look great but as I haven't seen many people use them I didn't know if they were as good as they looked! I jumped for a while in a Jeffries Elite which I found very comfortable but it was very flat and this was the saddle I came off in. I love it but it isn't that forward cut. The prestige look nice however I have never ridden in one

apart from the injury part i have exactly the same problem!!!!! I ride in an isablee dressage saddle which is like a great big arm chair from which its virtually impossible to be budged in! Riding in this and then a close contact it always suddenly seems like my seat belt has been taken off! I'm also 5'1 and i find i have to ride short to the extreme in order to be able to get my leg anywhere near properly in the knee rolls. I did borrow a new jeffries f1 from our saddler the other week and must say it fit me and twig like a dream (saddler coming out on 7th to fit us something professionally) Im not sure how ytou would cope jumping those heights in it as it is a bit deeper in the seat than your average close contact but then again this is what i liked about it! It does have a square cantle though so coming down over big drops or landings im assuming it wouldnt bash you in the bum! (was trying it on a 4yo so only did piddly jumps) if you find something let me know! Your predicament sounds very similar to mine!

I have a Stubben and I love it, don't find it hard or uncomfortable. If you are looking at a Stubben you want the MF Spezial (Special) model also known as MFS. They have different types of saddle such as a Siegfried, Roxanna etc which describes the type of leather the MFS bit is the most forward cut with the biggest blocks. So you'll see it as a Stubben Roxanna MFS.

Thanks dieseldog, i was looking at a siegfried MFS on ebay and the blocks looked really good, certainly not the best looking saddle but it looks very supportive I will see if I can steal one for a bit and see if I get on with it! The "orangeness" of stubben saddles has always put my off a bit, even the black saddles have orange lining LOL! Well tan to be correct! Thanks again I will certainly be trying out a stubben now I know that they don't kill your bum!!! I would like to try out this Jeffries F1 but I can't seem to find any local saddlers that even have them in stock, I'll keep trying!

I have an albion K2 jumper for one of mine and a close contact for the other. The K2 is a fantastic saddle for keeping you in a good position but does lack some freedom of movement. I love mine because it keeps me on a rather extravagent jumper who has a habit of rearing.

I've had a Butet for over 10 years now and I absolutely love them. Done everything from 2 star three day eventing to unaffiliated dressage as I felt so secure in it and couldn't bear prospect of dressage saddle on lunatic youngster!! I really can't recommend them highly enough. They do single flap XC saddles but the 'ordinary' version has lovely padded kneerolls and they're all calfskin so lovely and sticky. Plus they do them in 4 different sizes (15", 16", 17", 18") and 15 flap sizes, also you can get them more or less forward cut according to your preference. I have a flat seat version but they also do a half deep seat version which might suit your preference better.
Here's a picture of the half deep seat version

This one doesn't have knee rolls I don't think (optional?) mine is a lot more squidgy and secure than this one looks. Also you can get thigh rolls if you like.

Have a look on this website which do new and second hand www.sederholmselected.co.uk.
honestly try them they're FAB!
