Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum, and was suprised to see that most of the posts seem to be from LACS people, all makes for a good debate i guess!

As to my views on the hunting ban, I've hunted all my life with a small harrier pack in west yorks and made my best efforts, like all born and bred hunters, the prevent the ban. However, from a totally selfish point of view, my hunting life has kinda got better..

Our hunt has started to lay a trail, I thinks its been needing to go that way for a while with all the A roads and M ways in and around our country. TBH i like it better, I've never been totally into the killing bit (i know thats hypocritical!), its loads more fun, people are less stressed out , the hounds look better, the hunt is getting more members and it's just a better day out in general!

I know this is just my opinion of my little hunt, but i don't understand why everyone is so completly "Anti Ban" or "Pro Ban", its seems like everyone has forgotten the real issue and got far too interested in th politics. Why can't everyone just be honest about what they actually think would be best for everyone involved - i.e. foxes, hares, hounds, horses, hunt staff etc.?

But do you not think that the publicity arisen from the ban has attracted more members? Without the politics involved alot of people wouldnt give a damn. The politics have spurred hunts into changing things, and so attracting more of a wide clientelle.
Hunts do seem to be going from strenght to strength and I think your point is very valid.

I totally agree, whatever path each hunt has decided to take. In our hunt a lot of people came back for 'one last season' or thought they wanted to try it before it got banned, and then we got lots of extras because they thought a trail would be easier (seems harder -and more fun to all us regulars!)

I meant the polatics on this site suprise me, not in general, and it's all either "We love tories" or "we love labour" - I don't understand how people can be so black and white.

Im glad that your hunt has adapted so well and that you enjoy it as much as ever!
I had hoped that this would be the case, would have been a black day if hunts had given up because of lack of support.

In polatics I am a complete turncoat.I always vote for who I think will be best for the Country as a whole, for me its the only logical way to do it.

Welcome to the forum!

I don't think its better for the fox at all.

When it came to hunting hares I always sat on my horse watching the hare circle praying it would escape the hounds, however when it comes to hunting foxes I like to see a kill (not literally see!).

Im not saying is, i graduated in maths, not nicest fox death penalty! It does worry me what farmers will do now though, the ones who used to depend upon there local hunts.. I really believe if i were a fox, and i had to go, with hounds would be the most natural way.

We never really killed many foxes though, and it is really easy to feel sorry for the hares! So i think thats why I'm glad we are trailing.

are all hunts doing better then?? have any actually had to pack in??

Your local foxhounds pack would be after you if you did kill many foxes (pre-ban), I hunted with harriers and foxhounds who shared country and the foxhounds would get very s****y if the harriers hunted foxes! :smirk:

I think the law should contain some test of cruelty. The law banns all sorts of things not just formal fox/stag/hare/mink hunting. It's also pretty unclear what is and isn't banned.

'LACS' on this site is arguing that it is actually fine for whole packs to flush out animals. It does seem that no one knows exactly what the law is and how it affects them.

I think people have a right to be governed by clear sensible laws, and if cruelty is what they are against them that is what they should ban.

PS I've never voted Tory and supported the miners.

When it came to hunting hares I always sat on my horse watching the hare circle praying it would escape the hounds, however when it comes to hunting foxes I like to see a kill (not literally see!).

I'm with you there! I love hares. Although...hypocritically...I loved watching my lurcher course them, much more fun than beagles/bassetts/harriers.

Hi Buckybee, our hunt, as most in built up areas, got an increase in membership as a result of the ban publicity. I'm still dead set against it, though, although am pleased the hunt could continue. I struggle to see the point of a line.

We don't share country with anyone so its ok, well only a rapidly increasing amount of shooters who we have to keep out of the way of... Don't see why, we were there first!

Do hunts hacve to use boiled up shot fox to lay trails or do they choose to use it because that's what they like doing?

There was some type of urine that was being advertised in Hounds magazine..

My huntsman assures me a pack in Holland keep a pair of Silver foxes specially for the purpose of using their bedding to lay scent trails.

I think partly as we live in hope of proper hunting resuming sometime so its best if the hounds still like the smell of fox (whatever works for them...)

Also, shot foxes are very common around here (three cheers from all you antis...)so its a readily available sourse of stink.

Much easier to make it from a dead fox than keeping a pet fox for its wee. IMO.
