Who is a larger rider (size 18) looking for fashionable clothing that boasts modern fabrics, nice colours in materials that fit well that I can purchase off the peg from lables currently in trend?

Last year at Olympia I spoke to a Dutch clothing company, they made all the right noises but I am yet to find a clothing manafacturer that is able to offer what I am looking for. This year I again spoke to another manafacturer who

Some of you may recognise me and my arse, I was the one who appeared in H&H's News story about 22 inch saddles... FOR THE RECORD MY SADDLE IS 18 INCHES ;)

I don't want to wear shapeless stuff which is what one company is offering. I want to wear the same lables that other people are wearing just in a size which fits me and doesn't cut off my circulation or stop me breathing!

I can fit into most of HKM but the larger sizing doesn't seem to be so freely available over here so need to order from abroad.

I know there are other riders like me so why will a manafacuturer not meet the demand?

Hello there,

Curvy Fillies based in Ireland should be able to help you. I don't have any other info for them. I've seen their ad's and they do mail order..

regards,

I'm not overweight but need a size 16 (sometimes an 18 depending upon brand, style and whether I want to layer up) to enable me to fasten jackets over my ginormous knockers and that is restrictive enough! Especially if I also want something that won't leave me with a bare midriff...... why is everything so blinking short????

I agree Kristmaskat. I am somewhat well endowed in the boob department, but also I have trouble getting jackets to fit my Arnold Schwarzenegger shoulders and upper arms

Have you looked at smartpak, or Dover etc the american markets? They love a classy, tailored look and seem to be freer in size ranges than the sometimes small running euro brands.
IMO fuller fillies type stuff isnt really fashionable, just functional.
Cavaletti clothing?

Well there's a great business idea for the New Year!

The German manufacturers do seem to be better for my J-Lo bum - can't do Italian at all. Unfortunately my budget doesn't stretch to German prices for everyday stuff - Dublin fit me well. At least you are an even size, I'm a 15 ;)

I'm a size 12/14 so not sure about larger sizes than that but have you tried the Gallop range of clothing? I have bought a couple of their things and found they came up at least a size bigger, might be worth a try

Thanks had a quick look, got side tracked by their rugs ;) they don't seem to do anything except breeches and a blouson.

Exactly this ^ I have very large boobs! So end up looking like a Ninja turtle as my boobs get squashed flat so end up from my chin to my navel!

Fuller Fillies do a range of plus sized riding gear, their jods are great. They do jods, jackets, shirts, half chaps etc

Thank you, I have looked at their range before but I find them shapless and poorly fitting.

I want fitted garments (breeches are not such a problem for me) that take into account my shape, so I do have a waist (admittedly much larger than it used to be ;)) I don't want big tent like items that you end up slopping around in.

And as the others have said are acutally long enough.

Oh, Fuller Fillies stuff is just rank- nothing is flattering!

Joules are pretty good for coming true to size on older stuff off eBay- their newer stuff runs big though.

Thank you, however the fleeces and jackets are expensive when I can source virtually identical men's items at a fraction of the cost.
They are shapeless, I would like more tailored items that flatter rather than hang.

Might actually be worth buying a jacket that fits length wise etc and pay a seamstress to take in the waist. Made to measure and a lot cheaper!

Not seen the American stuff will have a look thank you.

FF is just horrible and if you buy a men's coat or fleece in ASDA they are literally the same but a 10th of the price!

I think I would rather be a 15 ;)

Agree Italian = stick!

I like Dublin can get away with their breeches and coats in XL.

But I want high equestrian fashion :p

Big sounds good :)

I like Joules, their tshirts and sweaters are lovely and with a decent amount of stretch which wash well.

I'm not very large, or have large knockers - however I find that most clothing is made too short.

I HATE getting a cold back, and t-shirts that are waist length mean that after reaching up to put a bridle on they pull out from being tucked in and make my back cold.

Its one of my pet hates! I tend to wear long t-shirts to allow me to tuck in - I'm not saying dress length but long enough that I can reach up high and not expose midriff and back!

At Olympia lady on the tradestand was trying to convince me that the jacket she was wearing would look amazing on me...

Er no actually it won't! Please don't insult me by trying to get me to purchase a £500 which would make look utterly ridiculous!!!!!!! In order to wear a short, tailored competition jacket you need a flatish stomach not a stomach that sticks out several inches above my legs!

I will stick to my longer length Mears jacket which is nipped in at the waist and gently flares to hide my wobbly bits :o

I have not bought any clothing from fuller fillies, but I did buy a pair of leather half chaps recently and when I saw the 'made in pakistan' sticker I was expecting the worst.

However, they are beautifully made, top quality leather, well cut, very comfy and look far more expensive than the £40 odd they cost.

Mark Todd breeches I find very generous. I am normally a size down in their stuff. I agree about looking on US sites. Maybe you have found a niche?

COTH forum is pretty friendly so maybe ask their advice?

I wouldn't say its a plus size issue, its the same for anyone outside the average. I have the opposite problem, I'm long & narrow, so to get the right length most stuff ends up hanging anyway. For everyday riding coats I prefer outdoor wear. Many have adjustable waists, so I can buy a size that is right on my arms & body, then pull in the waist & the bottom hem so it isn't tent like. And for jackets for competing or hunting, I discovered years ago the cheapest option is to buy standard off the peg, then get a local seamstress to adjust it, rather than tracking down expensive made to measures.

That is fine for a show jacket - in fact for a show or tweed jacket I'd be willing to get M2M which is what my husband did. Doesn't work for waterproofs etc.

For waterproof jackets and coats men's are an option but they can be shapeless and boring colours. I tend to use outdoor brands rather than equestrian brands but still struggle, I often need the largest size available and I'm a 14/16 so not exactly huge. Then there is the fact that so many manufacturers seem to think that by offering a "ladies" range that means making everything suitable for people of 5ft2" and under, so whilst they might make coats in my size the sleeves won't reach my wrists and the trousers are useless, again i'm not mega tall - 5ft8" so not unusual!

Strangely the only item I have ever found that I fit the sizing of easily without needed to compromise or shop around for certain brands or get alterations is wedding dresses. When I was getting married I found that loads of the dresses fitted absolutely spot on, my dress didn't need altering at all! Same with bridesmaids dresses. I must have the proportions that they use for their patterns.

I'm the same size as you and probably a bit shorter and both Ariat (Equestrian Clearance usually have a good range), Equitech (caveletti Clothing) and Toggi fit me.

I also like Kerrits too, theres another popular brand I wear a lot of but can't think what it is at the moment.

Off to Google Mears Jackets - do they cover boobs, bum & tum?!

Sizing is such a difficult one as we are all so different. My daughter is 5'10" with 36" inside leg so has opposite problem to me (she is mine, but takes after OH!!)

Think smart equestrian clothing for the more curvy lady is a really good idea - I'd buy it :p

This is the problem I have. Put me in a vest top and I'm a 12-14. Anything with shoulders you're talking size 18+ or a males size and I have the shoulder and back of Goliath. I have a particular problem with poloshirts - always too short as I've got a very long body. Same problem as AF - midriff peeks out and not nice!

I Just wear mens stuff!

I also have the problem that my backside doesn't fit the rest of my body, I get jodpurs to fit my waist and legs but my backside is flat and everything - even jeans and leggings!- hangs off my backside.

I also have to trap my boobs with sports bras before I try on jackets and tops.

I've heard their shirts aren't very good, but I've only bought jods, which I found to be quite good fit wise, only thing was they were too short

I had a look at what I have in my 'wardrobe', I have a pair of Dublin pull-up jods (they don't have a fly) that are a decent fit - and my bum is a 16~18. I can't remember where I got them from though! Oh and I have Harry Hall jods that are a good fit and long.

I wear polo shirts on top

I'm a size 18 too. I find Mark Todd and Toggi breeches are a good fit, jacket-wise I swear by my Mountain Horse Grace jacket which is super warm and a great fit. Tops wise, another vote for Joules tops and they last.

If feel a H&H co-operative brand coming on! I can offer website design, social media support and marketing & pr of the brand, now we need a financier, designer, buyer and sales! Any offers?! If we can't find it...let's make it?!

I'm size 16 normally but find all the same problems everyone has mentioned...

I ended up having to have my jacket altered by a seamstress. My waist is a 12 - 14 but my chest is rather erm... huge :o and the only clothes that fit over it end looking like a tent on me! I buy mens shirts from Tesco as found that they fit the best :)
