Surely I'm not the only cob owner.......

No one has said I am I just need to find something positive about struggling with frozen trough etc!

I need to find an equine equivalent of celery that takes more calories to digest than it contains. Jason seems to be able to exist on thin air. I'm sure I could get away with a small carrier bag of soaked hay a day if it wasn't for the colic risk.

Straw is a godsend - hence I'm not concerned about fat burning weather for my highlands ;)

No you are certainly not... its an obsession.. great, freezing temps...but alas not much if any weight loss, he is far to hairy too feel the cold out 24/7 but does not move much either except to the next blade of grass.

I'm thinking the same for my fatty pony :D. He gets a combination of hay and straw in a net but the hay is doubble netted and the straws not, I'm sure he thinks I'm evil and the white stuff all over his field is making him work extra hard for the grass in the day to not that he's impressed by this either :D.

DH, I made mine belt around the hay field twice before I allowed them any straw in the field today - they were horrified :p

I have 2 cobs. One's a poor doer and a wimp so rugged to the eye balls. The other is f. a. t. And he's been on a handful of chaff and half a hay net since he came in overnight in november. Blooming thing is economic to keep but he'll be big as a house when spring grass comes through so no u are not alone.

JFTD hehe I saw some pony prints when we came past earlier poor fergs, knobberts had to go all the way up past yours and round before he was allowed to go to bed tonight and he didnt get any thing in the field  :D

:D haha I decided not to ride&lead on the road as it was still icy when I was out  Lucky you getting out properly, though poor rob! Still, least he comes into a warm stable and gets hay and straw - it's a snow bed and straw dinner for the highlands :( :D

Not even -10 will get my lad to shed some pounds. He's put ON weight over winter. I've actually contemplated putting him in work to keep him trim. Long reining here we come.

I'm quite content with my weight...though a few extra calories walking him won't go a miss :)

I do try :D he lived out over christmas and will do when we go home again. Hehe and I have just brought some new clipper blades so he will be getting a super close shave infact we did joke about shaving him with a razor

Creature normally drops tons over winter regardless of rugs/feed. However, he hasn't this winter cos it's been so mild. I'm he's rugged up cos I don't want him dropping weight now.

You're most certainly not.
Fat Highland... cold day... Hello lightweight turnout... Bye Bye podge!

.... Sadly it does not work for us riders :P

mine is most put out that he cant get his good doer grass supply. He is on the much to his disgust but still tucking in hay! Right greedy guts but he looks like he has slimmed out in this little bit of cold weather. Despite his nice hemcored field shelter he has rolled two areas where I reckon he spends his dozing time!!

Shame his owner isnt on poor grazing though

After the farrier warning me of my mare having a high possibility of laminitis,....she went on a meg diet! She was in a very lush field though, so had to get a muzzle,....she was NOT impressed, only left it on a couple hours a day, but reconned a couple hours was better than no rest (didnt have a stable either!). Moved her a couple weeks ago to a livery yard with stable etc and shes in a small pen atm. The field is great as it isnt lush, so managed to get her to lose weight and without the mean muzzle! But then got a bit of a slatting from other livaries because she didnt seem to have enough hay as the grazing was poor etc etc and being new, didnt want to upset people, so gave her more hay,....now she is bloated and back to square one of being,...welll,.....round! So, decided that I will do the best by her and the others can think as they please!
