I'm planning to redo my school surface and am considering laying flexiride with no sand underneath. Just wondered if anyone had experience of this surface or any good suggestions- thank you
I got a sample when I was redoing my school last year and di some home testing left it outside, didn't blow away it was hard to tell due to the small quantity we had to test for an outdoor school what it would be like when changing from wet weather to frosty. If you ask the company who provide it they can put you in touch with local people who have it and you can view it on a larger scale and ask any questions.
It was out of my budget last year but looking to put in a second school next year and would be keen to use it. Keep us posted on how you find it?
we have just had it put in (sand underneath and a thin layer on top)
I wouldnt get it without sand as it would ride far FAR too deep!
With ours it did ride deep for the first few weeks but now its brilliant and we jump on it and its pretty good.
It does blow away so netting round the edge is better.
We havent tested it out in frost yet but have heard that it really resists the frost so fingers crossed we can continue exercising through winter!
I haven't heard good things about flexiride. I heard that it moves about alot and the horses ride through it. When I was looking at surfaces the best that I could see and test ride on was the Clopf. Not hugely expensive as far as surfaces go. I saw one arena where it was used on really crappy, gritty sand as an improver and what a difference!
Only down side is that unless you keep it wet it comes out of the surface and sits on top. I worried that it would blow away in all this wind but it did stay put until there'd been enough rain to grade it back in which was pretty much four months.
I would have loved a waxed surface, well wouldn't everyone? but this really is the next best thing and I'd never go back to rubber or whatever.
