Hi Tikino

I have just finished a research project on OCD and there is no reason why your horse shouldnt return into a sound athlete, with the correct treatment. Surgery is the most effective treatment for treating this condition.

From what I have heard/read previously OCD in hocks are easier to treat than OCD in the stifles and in particular the shoulder. Apparently OCD is more common in taller young horses as it is based on length of bone rather than the weight of horse. So a taller lighter horse is just a susceptible as a taller heavier horse.

From what I have read I have always thought that the prognosis for a horse returning to an athletic career is quite favourable so presumably this is more so with a younger horse but I'm not a vet nor an expert on OCD.

I wish you and your horse well xx
