I had a surprise foal 4 weeks ago and I was paying £80 a month for grass livery + stable for my mare. Does anyone know when you usually start paying for a foal ? Is it usually cheaper than for two horses? I need as much info as poss. I do not want to mention it at my yard yet as for the past two weeks my mare and foal have lived in due to my foal being lamed severely by the crap fencing.

I don't, and most places don't, charge for foals at foot. I only start to charge for foals at weaning time and it is approximately half the price of a full grown horse.

yard i'm on now is the same as last yard exept the foals when weaned are turned out 24/7 together in the 'winter grazing' fields (they are away from the yard) so is cheaper as you dont have a stable!! only prob i have is i want my foal to have a stable so it gets some maners unlike some of the youngsters there that havent been in a stable since they where weaned and now try to escape over the doors!!!!!
