Hubby comes from Farnham and seems to remember, though he now quite old and prone to forgetfullness!!!, that the area around Frensham Pond is sandy heathland, quite open and you have to be careful of some areas that are used by the military.......very nice restaurant around the pond too, we ate there last year!!
Its amazing! but you have to be careful with deep sand, when I was 12 my charlie chops properly bolted up the gallops and over the ridge and right down the other side and straight across the main road (this is quite a long way I might add!) and ripped his suspensory.
I dont get lost, I just follow PBS the wrong way....... I am easily lead!!!
Hacking is brill, sandy and fairly level,.... can get deep in summer and there are quite a few dog walkers and I have been told snakes, but we have yet to see one
Where are you going Frensham Great Pond??? If so follow the sandy track on the left as you drive into the car park, cross the road then there is a nice canter up onto the ridge. We normally go left once on the ridge, then there is a long canter track out the back of the car park which is behind Priory EC. Yes you'll get lost, but then at least the dog walkers come in handy for directions!!!! We were out for over 4hrs last week as started at FGP, rode to Tilford and then thought a quick spin round Hankley Common would be a good fun..............except we ended up at Elstead.............Had to knock on someone frontdoor to find out where we were!!!!
i've got transport now and moving to Ash next week so reckon I'll try trailering up to Frensham for a nice hack - done the sponsored ride enough times - bet I get well and truly lost though! Can you go on any of the paths that they use in the sponsored rides and are there any little jumpies around?
No jumps around (expect the odd log and some red/white metal poles that MQ likes to pop)
!!!!! Think you can ride nearly all the paths which are on the sponsored ride (they are all quite clearly marked anyway - especially the ones horses aren't allowed on).
I done the Frensham Sponsored Ride for the last couple of years and the riding round that area is fantastic. Obviously a lot easier not to get lost when you route is marked out for you though!! Have fun!
