If you're VERY lucky I may share my learned thoughts on Surtees, 5th rate Victorian author, at some point soon. For the moment, let me share with you one wise thing he said:

"It is better to be killed than frightened to death."

This explains why I and indeed the vast majority of people (including most foxhunters) abhor staghunting.

Stags, Fags. You chase them up to 7 or 8 hours, until they're so exhausted they have to stop and face a pack of baying hounds. It is at this point that they meet their death.

My dogs have made a deer stand at bay twice. Once years ago in after a hectic chase on moorland in West Kerry and once on my farm in Devon.

In both cases they got the deer into a stream bed and cornered it there.

I don't think the deer was frightened to death though.

You are showing your lack of knowledge Jerry.

They are shot.

Who or what is frightened to death ?

i go fox hunting but i dont fancy stag hunting they are alot bigger? thats all i dont disagree with it really just wouldn't enjoy it.

Hounds don't kill them, they hold them at bay and then they are shot at fairly close range.
