Absolutely wonderful that Horse and Hound have shared this video created by the Exmoor Pony Society this summer (as part of the Exmoor Pony Festival) to raise awareness of the endangered Exmoor pony and the dangers facing the free living ponies on the moor due to humans/traffic. The ending gives me a lump in my throat every time I watch it knowing how many ponies and foals lose their lives due to car accidents on the moor each year - completely senseless and unnecessary. Another "please slow down for horses" plea but built into a wonderful video giving the history and importance of this endangered breed.

Aw I do hope more people watch this. I absolutely love the breed and it's a horrible thought to think they are suffering due to lazy carelessness.

Me too - it's such a wonderful video about a really special breed (ok ok so I may be biased given I am lucky enough to own a few!) and given the work that has gone in to preserving the limited gene pool and bloodlines by the Exmoor pony society I am fiercely proud of both this little breed and it's guardians and I really hope people take note and slow down when driving across the commons of Exmoor. And to be honest, that goes for any moor (or area with roads going through) with feral ponies on it - Exmoor, Dartmoor, Bodmin etc...it's just a sensible message :)
