Hi

I think my gelding has got what is called a "bean" at the end of this penis. Been reading on the internet and bascially it's a build up of smegma at the end of the urethra. Has anyone else experianced this? is there anything I can do to get it out other than gently pull it? I think I'm going to call the vet as my old boy doesn't like his willy touching never mind possibly hurting it!
Any advise would be appreciated - Thanks :-)

it's not difficult to clear it yourself as long as he'll let you... but if he won't, sedation really is the best thing, then you can do it properly without risk of getting kicked.
there are previous posts about how to do this... but you don't pull it, you gently turn the end inside out kind of thing, you can feel and see the lump that needs to come out (if it is there), it's easy to do.
Excalibur sheath cleaner, or similar, is the best thing to use, plus gloves, warm water and a clean sponge.

Chancer has had these since rising 3. I found two in there about the size of the top of my thumb. I had to have his willy out and then as they were so large, very gently squeeze them out of the pockets by the pee tube they form in.

If you don't have a chap that does not mind a fair bit of handling of the willy then he will need sedation.

I now clean out the pockets every two - three months so nothing builds up in them. If I don't then he soon gets a build up of what is basically like a hard cheese in colour and texture.

Luckily my chap actually enjoys having his willy done so I can do it without help. I also have to clean it out weekly in summer with water as he gets a build up of mud and grit in there where he rubs his belly on the ground. If I don't he gets dark stains down his legs and is very itchy and whiffy.
