Hi - my TB went lame in trot after a fun ride over stoney ground. my farrier put hoof testers on him with and he was re-active. farrier said he had a bruised sole. a week later after a couple of days of soundness we re-shod him with pads and he was sound for 1 week.

this morning i have gone out to the field and he is lame on that leg/foot again..... although is quite happy and it only shows in trot.

can an abcess come and go before it bursts?

any thoughts please (without freaking me out too much.... lol) xx

Certainly could be an abcess, my other thought would be that I've known horses get a nasty case of thrush under the pads as it can trap everything in there and be all warm and moist. I know pads aren't cheap but I'd be tempted to cut it out and have a look to see whats going in.
