What can I do with my horse who has suspected missing spine? Will lunging him hurt more? Is he in pain even though he isn't being ridden? I want him to release some energy but don't want to hurt him. Thanks

I suspect he'd be quite floppy with a missing spine ;)

Alternatively, if it is kissing spine you will need x-rays and vet advice

Had to lol. How much is he turned out? What are his symptoms? Lunging in a pessoa or similar cn actually be beneficial for kissing spine as it builds up the back uscles and opens up the spine when the horse works long and low over its back.

OMG :D:D:D OP do you think someone has stolen it, or have you just misplaced it at the yard ? i know they do replacement joints, but not quite sure about whole spines..

Such a shame for a first post, hahahaha !! Sorry, can't help it.

Please ask your vet for advice.

The following story was a sad accident but I feel it's relevant. I used to know someone with a horse that became difficult to mount, reluctant to work over the back and generally unhappy in its work. The vet was called and the xrays showed kissing spines. The horse was meant to be rested following steriod injections and physio, but the girl wanted him to burn off some energy so she lunged him. The horse bucked as it went into canter, bronced a full circle and then fell, shattering it's pelvis.
