Suspensories/steroids/nerves cut -experience

Horsey has damaged suspensories in both hind and has received steroid injections which hopefully will work

If not he will need his nerves cut, which obviously I will have a good talk with the vet and weigh up the situation.

But has anyone had experiences of either and how sound the horse was after and what you did with them?

Mine is only 4 and I bought him to event in June by 2013/14 so this is a crushing blow and I'm gutted.

There are plenty of things you can try before going for denerving! Might be an idea to get a second opinion. Is it trauma related, or PSD?
My guy has PSD, and a degree of trauma, and has been treated with shockwave and rest - touch wood, he's sound again now.

If there wasn't a specific incident which caused the damage, current thinking is that it's problems elsewhere that result in suspensory problems. It's worth investigating further to try and avoid the surgery - which isn't going to fix the problem. It will just take away the pain and leave you with a horse who still has suspensory problems, but is sound because he can't feel them. Apparently the nerves often grow back too.
 
Hi I know exactly how your feeling I have new horse 5 yrs old and hes just had op , nueroctomy and prp in hind suspensory he had staples out today. Ask as many questions as you like and take a look at link it will answer a lot of your questions :D

Agree with what your saying and argued the point with my vet re surgery, if its tear then often the tear will repair with treatment but the enlargement in damaged area is what causes pain long after ligament is better.My vet believes that the pain is similiar to person with carpal tunnel syndrome.A good vet will discuss your options .My horse has problems in his front coffin and they are being addressed to.He hadnt seen farrier or dentist before I bought him:confused:
 
Vet believes its trama realted. We've discussed a few options but vet wants to give him a chance due to age. I trust this vet as she really knows her stuff and has had years of experience.

Auslander- I'm a bit in the dark about shockwave treatment, but can you tell me how it helps and heals? It's interesting to see how it works
