So the old lad has had a lump come up on one of his fore suspensory ligaments, just above the fetlock. Not sure exactly how long it's been there, as he hasn't been lame and there's no heat, just happened to notice it when I was checking his legs last weekend (which I will confess, I don't do as often as I should!). It definitely wasn't there in December/January, because I religiously checked his legs after we'd been hunting, but he's had a couple of months off at the start of the year and came back into work about two of months ago, has been mostly pottering since to get us both fit and back in the swing of things.
The vet had a look at it this morning and he's booked in to have an ultrasound next week, I'm really hoping that since he's sound it isn't anything too serious, perhaps just a little scarring from something that healed up on its own? If it is a new injury I'm wondering if this will be something that will sort itself out with field rest, as he can't be box rested, or if it will be retirement time. (I hope not- while he's earned it, I'm not sure he's quite ready mentally and on a more selfish note, I'd miss riding him, he's enormous fun)
Either way we'll know better what is going on after the scan, but I wondered if anyone else had seen similar and if so what the result was?
