I Have just recieved a text message that I think is worth passing on. 'There have been three sightings of two suspicios men with eastern european accents photographing horses in Oxfordshire. This could be a steal to order gang. The men have been seen at shows and events and even in a horse owners field tacking pics. They have been seen in a white van reg N253 XAJ (NB: these are believed to be false plates - these plates belong to a cream ford minibus, which is not involved in stealing horses - read more about this number plate) and red land cruiser. Police are treating this as suspicious so please contact them urngently if you see anything. Please pass this info to as many people as you can.

I have just read Nats Post which state exactly the same thing but my text message definatly said Oxfordshire!? Guess we all need to be extra vigilent.

I added one this morning for Lincolnshire

The whole country must be on the look out

Me too but mine said Surrey. I guess everyone needs to keep a look out, I know this is certainly my worst nightmare if it was to happen.

Blimey- these 2 men must be getting through some petrol!! because I'm in Sussex and I got the same text as above this morning however no area was stated.

Guess we just have to be on our guard though!

I think it began as a general text, in an area, and people have got a little out of hand with it! - its definately up North they were seen!!

Always useful to be on your guard as poster above says!

There have now been three sightings of two/three Eastern European men taking multiple photos of local horses. They were seen in a member's field with her horses, at the open show on Sunday 18th May in a white van registration number N253 XAJ and again the following day photographing horses in Hope Valley, this time in a red Landcruiser registration number B16 RBB.

Please can all members be extra vigilant and if they see anyone suspicious please phone Emma Muse direct at Buxton police station on 01298 762090 or Derbyshire Police on 0845 123 3333 as soon as possible as the police will stop and search these cars. Please also Email Kath at HVRC so that the information can be circulated to members.

I too have had this text and I am in Kent although it is good to be vigilant we have now lost sight of where these males are actually working and are likely to strike, I feel some scare mongering is going on!

I think its a txt hoaks in that its a 3 page message, you send that to all and sundry at 10p a shot that soon adds up!

Be nice to know where this originated from.

Got it as well, we are in Devon! I agree BBs, such a relief in a way. It has made us really tightened up our security so thats a good thing! We got told a numberplate as well so if it is a hoax I feel very sorry for whoever has that numberplate!

I had had this message 4 times over the last 2 days, each time with the same car details but different areas. Either these men are very busy or there is a bit of scare mongering going on!!

ETS Sorry for repeating what everybody else has already said, should have read the replies before posting!!

These guys are getting everywhere as I received this text three times from my horsey buddies and we are all from East Sussex!

Hi,
Had a text from a friend at Heathfield Village who said a horse had been stolen in Bletchington TODAY. The thief came to his yard this afternoon with the horse in trhe trailer, asking for 1 night grazing. The owner drove up and the thief sped off.

Red 4x4 but no details of make.

We have a member of the Thames Valley Police on here, am sure she will be able to confirm this shortly, IF it is true.

So, the real story. A man arrived at the yard with some cock and bull story about wanting livery, he did not have a horse with him. Somebody went to enquire for him, and when they returned he said he was no longer interested and left. Absolutely no suggestion that he was after a horse, and given similar incidents in the area was probably looking for tack or a quad to steal

The vehicle is a red Ford Maverick, the number was taken.
