So, back in April my 3 year old warmblood gelding started bleeding from one side of his nose. It wasnt a lot, just dripping. I kept him in to keep and eye and phoned my Vet. Vet said to give it a couple of days as it wasnt a lot. Bleeding stopped after a day, then appeared again a few days after that. Vet came and examined but, as the blood had stopped again could not see a lot and prescribed Antibiotics. He tapped the sinuses but they were hollow so this was just a precaution. The boy then had his Wolfies out and he had a few days off to get over it. Vet also noticed a slight swelling to the side of one eye that I had to keep an eye on. I then took him in and lunged him, to which blood started coming out of his nose again (but out the other nostril). Vet came back, did an endoscope which was clear and then took x rays which showed thickening of the bone. Also, in this couple of days the lump extended across his head and was a hard bony lump. Turns out the boy has "suturitis" or Nasofrontal Suture Exostoses of that particular suture line. Nothing to worry about apparently but extremely scary at the time for me and the boy! Just wondering if anyone else has had experience of this and also whether these bony lumps can occur where there is not a suture line? Only asking as when the boy was young he knocked his nose and about halfway up his nose he had a bony lump (which same vet did see) which has only just gone down two and a half years later! He also had a bony lump under his chin where I imagine he has knocked it. Presumably if he bumps himself he is going to just come up in hard bony lumps?
