Very concerning indeed. Especially as the very spirit of the tri partite agreement is so easily undermined. And indeed flaunted.
With the very real concerns that both Defra, but in particular the government, has on a renewed outbrake of Blue Tongue - I really hope that they will also be looking closely at suspending the TPA to ensure that EIA does not, once again, rear it's terrible head in this country.
Both are spread by biting insects. However, whilst Blue Tongue has a vaccine. EIA doesn't. And any horse found with the disease is destroyed immediately.

That is what is so damn scary
How effective do you think our fly/midge sheets will be???genuine question
Hadfos, unless you can cover every part of your horse's body every second of the day, he will still be at risk if swamp fever enters this country.
If you are concerned about this issue, please write to your local MP and MEP expressing your concern about the Tripartite Agreement and EIA, and ask them to press for an urgent review of this agreement to prevent the spread of EIA to the UK. This is particular important in view of the number of rescue horses coming over from France who often have heavy louse infestations.
The worry is not just French horses coming into UK who are properly documented but horses WITHOUT passports coming in from other EU states and then given French passports and shipped to UK!!!!
I wrote to DEFRA a month ago and received a response that all horses had to have passports before they entered France. All DEFRA need to do is to speak to any one of the Intl. Horse Transport Co. drivers in the UK who will confirm what I say. This side of the channel no-one checks.
