I have a LWB Frontera which has a swan neck detacheable towbar already fitted.
I was wondering what the general opinion on these is for towing a horse trailer?
It certainly looks to be pretty new as the plate with info on is still clear to read with no fading but I have read that they are not safe for livestock.

I'm happy to replace it with a rigid towbar (is the swan neck rigid ok, or is the shorter more common looking type better) but don't want to waste money unnecessarily if they are actually ok, especially when pretty new. (Also the person who had the car prior to me put it on to tow a small trailer with a motorbike and the vehicle has really low mileage overall so wouldn't have done much towing)

Thank you

We've recently had one fitted on our Mercedes ML500. It was shipped over from Mercedes Germany and professionally fitted. Not sure why people think these aren't safe as they wouldn't be manufactured and fitted by Mercedes if they weren't safe and up to the job. Only thing I would say OP is to check the towing weights of the Frontera as when we were looking at tow vehicles I think there was only one model that had enough towing weight.

I fitted my A6 estate with a detachable swan neck and have towed my 1800kg caravan and horse trailer numerous times.

They wouldn't make it and it wouldn't pass the BS tests if they were inferior.
