Have a older 3.5 t box with perfect box bit but chassis is getting old.....is it possible to swap chassis over??? If so any ideas on cost and the best places to get this done. No dodgy dealer sites - had enough of scumbags out to get your money and risk your safety 🤬

It depends if the box was built separate from the chassis & then fixed to the chassis like many of the purpose built horseboxes rather than the lorry conversions. You may be able to have a mechanic have a look under the vehicle & assess how it was built & then he'll be able to give you an opinion on if removal is possible or viable. Good Luck

Thankyou 👍👍 It’s a coach built box - the local car garage suggested it but they wouldn’t do it as it’s not their specialty

Unless it was a separate container built on a Renault Master Chassis Pan Cab then it is just not worth the man hours to separate the two as many of the panels of the container will be welded together to the host body.

Hey
What’s a Renault master pan cab?? It’s a 3.5 T coach built.....not a van conversion ....

My understanding is it’s not impossible but not easy/straightforward. When I bought my 3.5t from Staffordshire Horseboxes I asked the same question and that pretty much the reply they gave.

You could try this place? Under their ‘refurbishment’ section they do mention body swaps for boxes where the chassis is beyond repair. I’ve used them for a repair to a breastbar - nothing like the scale of what you need but they were quick, pretty professional and reasonably priced.

Swapping the bodywork, drivetrain and electrics from an old chassis to a new one is a big job; I was seriously considering something similar with a Series III Land Rover a few years ago and started research into it.

There are a few companies who manufacture and sell chassis, and they might be able to refer you to a garage that can do the work you want.

You can buy the Renault Master as a Chassis Pan Cab meaning that when supplied new you get the cab and chassis without any container on it. A body builder can then build a container on to it as a 'bolt on bolt off' which makes it easy to remove the container at a later date.
