swayback anyone???!!! o_0

We own a sway back that is 100% sound, and is 100% normal under saddle, she rides and jumps like any horse and, has been fully vetted by vet and equine back specialists and her back is just as strong as a normal horse, just unsightly!
People judge her on her looks but she is perhaps one of the most tallented youngsters weve seen recently!!!

That poor mare on the other hand, not rideable as its alot more severe than ours, but im sure shes a super mare, poor girl!
 
I guess there is a pretty good reason why she isn't able to be ridden :eek:
Imagine trying to fit a saddle on that!!

Omg, sorry but i couldnt have a horse with a back like that. At the old riding school i worked at we had a sway back horse not as bad as that but not good. We were reported to sspca twice when people must have seen the horse in the field and thought there was something really wrong with it, and it doesnt surprise me really i hated looking at the poor horse although it was sound and rideable and a generally very happy chap, i just really couldnt deal with it, someone i know owns a horse with a slight roach back and this also really bothers me, just makes me feels uneasy perhaps thats ridiculous but its just the way i feel.

Another unwanted oldie that the owner will not take responsibility for this person wants something else so she can ride.

Bought when she was 17 back in 2001. Is she 23 or 27 then???

And you find me someone that has arthritis that says it isn't a painfull condition.....

Love how she is being sold as owner wants something to ride, but then in the other horse she has advertised (that she "rescued") she has said he is being sold as she can only ride once every 6 weeks or so and he needs to be ridden more?? (That incidently can't lift his back legs due to arthrtitis in his hocks????)

If someone showed me that picture elsewhere, I'd have said it was photoshopped. Unbelievable. Poor old dear :( It would be nice to hear of oldies getting a good stable retirement once in a while.
 
My horse was worse than this. He was born with a sway back and competed to advanced dressage level. He had his back checked regularly and never had a problem with it.

Poor old gal, my aunt has a very old (must be 40) mare, who has an awful sway back, similar to this. Luckily doesn't affect her at all. She has mild arthritis, only one eye and is as deaf as a post, but she is well looked after and loved, and will be until it's her time to leave us.
 
Leaving aside the ethics of selling a horse that age, the swayback isn't necessarily a disaster. I know a decent racehorse with a back nearly that bad and have a great photo of a winning jumper with the most extraordinary sway back. It's obviously not idea and I'm sure it's a nightmare to fit (I know a horse with a much less extreme sway who is very difficult to fit) but it doesn't necessarily, in itself, cause her pain.
 
A lot of the Welsh ponies, including show ponies, have sway backs to one degree or another. They win & are bred from. It has never made sense to me. In my opinion it is unsound & should be bred out not in,but that's just my opinion.

Agree with this - especially in C's and D's, I would never touch anything bred for the inhand ring thanks very much!! Yet these stupid welsh cob judges encourage the breeding of showy rubbish that will never be able to do a job under saddle!!?? There are not many welshies that do both jobs and we should not be encouraging deformaties like we have done in the world of dog breeding.
 
Wow, the people who bred from her must really care about the foals' welfare.
Assuming this didn't happen overnight :rolleyes: I can't believe someone would breed a swaybacked mare. Breeding has been thoroughly linked to worsening swayback, especially in older mares.
Not only that, but I'm pretty sure I've read on a good few websites that it can be hereditary.

Poor mare needs a good retirement I think!

Nebo Daniel springs to mind, having said that he bred some superb stock.
 
This advert was posted last week and it makes me so angry, and sad.

Why can't people show veterans the love and care that they deserve, or do the responsible thing by them?! :mad:

I hope this woman is getting a few well worded emails that make her rethink.
 
She was trying to sell it as a broodmare last week:eek: Poor mare it may end up in the sales as she is also selling her other "rescue" horse so that she can ride.
