I looked at a Short Wheel Base Terrano - says that it will tow the same as the 5 door but I'm not convinced! Would someone mind looking at the kerb weights as I'm a bit confused!

Would prefer a slightly smaller jeep as I'm a bit of a girl and won't be able to park it!

I tow with a SWB and it tows two full size horses in a 510 IW brilliantly, especially up our incredibly steep Devon hills.

I also drive it into the City for work and it's very easy to park!

I just got a text from a friend who said not to get a SWB - I'm very confused now!

Well all I can say I've had two now and they both have been excellent. As I've said I have extremely steep hills around me and they tow up effortlessly even with a 17hh horse who likes to bang the floor the nearer we get to home.

I also sometimes use my mothers older Isuzu and there isn't a great deal of difference, although I would say the Terrano was easier.

At the end of the day everyone has different preferences and I can just tell you that the SWB tows just fine !

Perhaps you could ring a Nissan dealer and ask their opinons between and LWB and SWB?

I have a SWB Terrano and LWB Maverick (same as the Terrano as an older model).

Only towed two horses once with the Terrano when the Maverick's clutch was slipping. I willl admit, I didn't like it as much. Had to pull off on a steep bank and the back wheels were spinning. Never had that happen in the Maverick and I've pulled off from the same place when towing with that (was when I used to pick a friend up at her smallholding with her horse) However, we did have to have a new dampener on the trailer's hitch shortly afterwards. May not have been the car.

They are capable and do tow well, I just prefer the ride the LWB gives.

EDITED TO ADD: I think my preference is largely down to the fact of how little the SWB looks in comparison to the trailer. I sort of feel as though it would struggle, even when in reality it tows quite well.

From the link you've used, which is the same link I would have gone to anyway, the 5-door (2002 model year, 2.7TDi) has a kerbweight of 1815kg, compared to 1700kg on the 3-door. Will vary from vehicle to vehicle depending on options etc, but its a good comparison.

I was told the difference is that the lwb is heavier therefore holds the road better when towing, I believe the swb gives a slightly bouncier ride. I have only ever towed with a lwb so don't know from experience but I am very tempted to get a swb next as I only ever tow one and like you say so much easier to park etc.
