Sweat / protein lumps / scabs after hard work

After heavy work (hard hunting) my horse is getting huge raised lumps just back from her withers, under the saddle the lumps are soft to touch (like a raised vein) and reduce over night but then scab up.

I first thought this was sweat related so I wash her with anti-fungle bubbles straight away after removing the saddle.. But no change.

However I have now found the scabs have also moved all the way around her and over her chest.

We use petroleum jelly to remove the scabs and everything heals nicely but after another hard day's hunting the scabs or spots reappear.

It was also suggested that this could be protein related as she is on a very rich diet because of the work she is getting, space she has been on pasture mix crashed Barliey and sugar beet.. I'm stumped ?

Ron used to get something similar and still can if I'm not super careful about it....

he has a wool numnah, to help wick away sweat and provide some cushioning. The numnah is washed religiously after every day hunting even if he didn't seem sweaty.

He is washed thoroughly with vetrolin and warm water after every ride, again, even if he didn't seem sweaty.

the lumps soon turn scabby if left, and will spread round his belly and chest... It's not a fungal issue, or anything like mud fever or rain scald, just seems to be a reaction to being really sweaty. any scabs that formed i would wash with hibiscrub, rinse well and then leave to dry thoroughly under his fleece before re-rugging him for the night.

The other thing i tried for a while was putting a decent amount to talc under his numnah on hunting days. It's not great for the numnah, but did seem to help absorb a good deal of sweat and keep it out of his coat. I only leave a half saddle patch when I clip him and that seems to help too.

It doesn't seem to be diet related, or not in Ron's case at least - he's on alfa plus, linseed meal, speedibeet and then supplements, so a fairly high protein diet....

Is it possible to give a quick wash off before travelling home rather than letting him dry off, I find the Gallop washes to be excellent, they dont need to rinse.
I/m not a fan of hibiscrub, it kills all skin bacteria, good and bad, its not really a shampoo.
Re diet I go for a straights type diet, using non molassed beet minerals, micronised linseed and bruised oats, keep chaff to a minimum and cut out any preservatives, add salt.
Micronised linseed is great for condition and for skin.
