sweaty/ cooler rugs?

my mare is doing some more active work this winter, as going out to training and jumping, and also doing fast trot and canter hacks with the limited day light!
she has a blanket clip which has helped a bit... but after she is ridden what rug or grooming do you recommend?
on Sunday she did 30 minutes of mostly trotting on a hack, including up a big hill. when we got back i put a cotton sheet on her as she was sweaty, then an hour later i tried to brush a bit of sweat out, as still a bit damp, and put her mw on for the night. but i don't always have lots of time to wait for her to dry.
should i sponge the worse bits even when cold? my friend has a kettle so i could get warm water. or just try to brush it? does anyone recommend any coolers/wicking rugs that are worth buying?

This is why I full clip mine even with a blanket on a mild day they still sweat, I find thermatex dries the quickest not cheap though, failing that if you have a horse walker putting them on that with a fleece on for ten minutes can help cool them off.
 
Pippixox, if your horse is getting that sweaty & isn't drying off much & you are only doing a small amount of work then you decided on the wrong clip. I would do a full clip & rug accordingly. We have ours fully clipped & they have a 'Thermatex' or similar on after work & they do dry off sufficiently to be groomed, rugged & turned out.
 
would you recommend thermatex above other cheaper options?
yes think i may have to full clip her, as she is quite a warm and sweaty horse
 
Thermatex often copied never beaten are the best wicking rugs by miles .
Try eBay you see them on there you need to buy a size smaller than usual wash them with a detergent for delicates and they last years and years my oldest was bought in 1991.
 
A cotton sheet will do nothing to wick sweat away.... so wrong rug to start with.

Get a good fleece, just as good as a thermatex imo epesh if you fully clip her. Blanket clips are something and nothing...
 
I have several "wicking"rugs and they are all pretty good. WeatherBeeta, PE and Thermatex. Not much to choose between in terms of wicking ability. I would be tempted to take all the coat off...
