Hi,
I have an extremely sweaty horse does a lot of endurance stuff and has never failed a vetting. Just wondering if anyone else has a sweaty nag and if it is good bad or of no consequence at all.

It is good for cooling the horse down effectively in endurance and hence keeps the heart rate down but you have to make sure that he drinks enough and you MUST use electrolytes daily to replace those lost in sweat.

Mine sweats a lot - he is a big horse and quite active in his movement. I guess the only consequence I see is that he drops condition from it and I have to compensate through feeding.

Also he is getting bumps under the saddle which it has been suggested is due to blocked sweat glands and changes in coat.

I did wonder if excess sweating meant that he is in pain i.e. more effort is being put in to movement but then I am born worrier and my boy is a terrible mover anyway although it doesnt seem to affect him at all jumping, schooling etc and vet and physio say he is fine

Some horses will sweat more when they are fitter. This is a good thing, they are more able to cool themselves effectively. So long as you are providing free access to water and adding electrolytes to feed I would not be at all concerned.
