While everyone else is deciding which rug to put on at night, I'm still trying to stop my pony sweating! It's mad. His coat isn't really thick, it isn't particularly warm and he hasn't had a rug on yet since last winter...

Does anyone have any idea why he's sweating so much? Is it normal? Should I worry?

He literally just stands in his stable and his coat his clammy and staring. That's before he's even done any work.
He seems absolutely fine in himself, in every other way, but someone mentioned to me today that maybe he has an infection somewhere and has a temperature...??

It's normal for horses that grow a heavy winter coat. It's unseasonably mild at the moment so neds with winter woolies already on will sweat just standing still. Out with those clippers hun lol!

It is quite mild for time of year although sweating can be a sympton of azotoria although unlikely to be unless there are other symptons. What does is coat look like?

My TB is a very hot horse - whilst everyone else puts rugs on at this time of the year I don't otherwise he boils despite having a thin, fine coat!! Some horses just are hot!!

My horse is doing similar at the moment. Winter coats are coming through and its quite muggy at the moment.

Continue as you are doing, ensure he has enough to drink and electrolytes and as the weather sorts its self out, he should be more comfortable.

The natives and native xs are particularly sweaty where I am.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll definitely keep an eye on him over the next few weeks. I haven't clipped him yet as only had him since April, but he's very laid back so I wouldn't think it'll be an issue for him, so if he needs clipping early, that's no problem.

Good to hear their are others that are still feeling the heat too though.

I had to clip mine two weeks ago, they simply can't cope with the work in this temperature with the beginnings of fluffiness, haven't taken enough off by the looks of it so will have another go at the w.end.

With the temperatures dropping so quick at night after exercise, i'd rather they didn't sweat quite so much as they live out.

I'd talk to your vet about it Soph - hperhydrosis can be the sign of a number of things - several of which should be taken seriously. He should not really sweat up at rest like that.

my hw cob was clipped out all yr round as he was so big that he got uncomfortably sweaty all year round and never stopped growing hair!!! my new boy gets sweaty man parts as he is growing and being a hormonal type teenager- i keep expecting spots!!! i would monitor and check with your vet if you are unhappy. He may just be a se=weaty being like people are!!
