Hi all,
I have a lovely 16 plus Irish draft... I have been feeding her stud mix and alpha (as advised by feed store) for the past few weeks for oomph as she's a very lazy girl, but unfortunately it hasn't had the desired effect.. she is now sweaty and spooky but still as slow!
So, my question is, from experience, what have you fed for energy and what was the outcome??

My personal preference is for a fibre diet based on unmolassed beet with maybe some alfalfa or other unmolassed chaff and then whole soaked oats for energy, I've found that it works much better to feed oats alone as you don't have all the other rubbish (only my opinion) that feed companies put into mixes.
Have a read here, I worked on a race yard that fed their horses on this diet and they noticed a positive difference from being on commercial race mix.
