I bought my 6year old gelding in July from Ireland and he has been fantastic but he has just been diagnosed with sweeney shoulder. I was away on holiday when the muscle behind his shoulder just wasted away by the time I got back it was gone. The vet says it is due to an injury to the nerve although I don't know what. He is having twice daily TENS machine treatments in the hope that it will stimulate the nerve and muscle. Has anyone else had this? Will it recover?

Also I want to still spend time with him but he cant do much any ideas for things I can do in the stable there is only so many times he can be groomed, hugged etc!

Any advice would be really helpful. Thanks alot!

I knew a racer who had it which was the result off a fall out pointing, he had lazer treatment etc but it never came right and was never 100% sound and on hard ground in winter he just couldn't cope. Never was ridden again and was put down 2 years after it happened cause he couldn't cope in winter. He loved his work and wasn't happy being a companion so was the kindest thing to do.

You can buy a book about massage and streaching exercises and practice those, mine love it.

Yes I worry that the muscle will never recover the loss is so great but the idea about massage is good can anyone reccommend a book or even a day course to go on?
