Sweeping up after farrier has visited

Everyone should take a bit of responsibility.
Farrier should leave the yard as he found it, I'm sure he wouldn't like it if I tipped a load of nails in front of his van on his driveway but the owners if the horse that is being shod, esp if outside someone elses stable should clear up after their horse.
It's a big problem on my yard as many of the owners are not their for the farrier. We have approx 6 different farriers with different standards of how to treat somebody elses yard. However most sweep it into a pile. But so many owners don't even pick up the pile!!!
My horse is barefoot and it's so frustrating to walk though clippings and broken nails etc and I get so annoyed when I have to sweep it up...infact I know it's petty but I sweep it outside that persons stable so eventually they take the hint!!!

i can't believe that peeps are so c*** at this, but it did happen on my last yard. And guess who had to get rid, cos of said labrador. YO's should be laying down the law really, shouldn't they. I mean, if horses are likely to get injured........ sm x

I would always expect the owner of the horse to sweep up after the farrier. If they are not there for whatever reason i assume some one was in charge of the horse. In which case they should have swept up.
My farrier has a little pot & always put the bits in there.
Very sorry to hear of your horses injury, glad it is no worse.

Drives me a bit mad that the farrier dumps old shoes/nails where he shoes (near my box and on the way to and from the field). I cleared up after him when he did my horse yesterday and always do.

We had a similar issue that a horse stood on a nail that had been left.

I wouldn't expect the farrier to do it, but I'd have words with the owners who used the farrier.

My farrier counts his nails in and out, the old ones go in a pot in his van along with old worn shoes. All thats left is the tips and tyrimmings. I would never expect him to clear them. If owners are not at the yard to clear up I would expect the YO to do it as it is most definately a welfare issue.
