Hello peeps well it,s confirmed my shettie as a mild onset of lami so he is in, and Amigo is staring over the fence wondering where is pal is. I feel so sorry for my bug he is a sweet little thing he is not your average shettie he is quite timid and shy but so gentle, thinking of having him tested for cushings as he as always had a very long coat and although he loses it in the summer it,s july before its gone and back again by september. He is not fat either he tends to drop weight in the winter so has more than usual. He is 13 so not that old either. Vibes are required. me thinks.

snoopysue lots of vibes for the wee man.

well toby has settle a bit now thank goodness the downside is his insurances has nearly reached its max and he needs to come home with 4 weeks of gastro guard at £1000 and 3 weeks of high does steriods so and also needs follow ups of outpatients appiontment and gastroscope i think i might need to rob a bank as worked out at least £1500 over insurance

god only knows where i will get it but i will

Snoopy sue, lots of good luck (((vibes))) for your little shetland. I was considering a cushings test for ours the other day, as his coat is exactly the same.

It has only been this year, it has been like this, he's only 6, so even younger!! and a real sweetheart
grin.gif

Tikino - fingers crossed for Toby and (((vibes))

snoopy - everything crossed for your little boy. I have 2 with lami - my cob and our section A and I manage them well (even if I say so myself!
grin.gif
) so feel free to ask anything that may help if you are new to managing lami. Check out the Laminitis Clinic website - their advice is free (well £1 a minute on the phone but still cheaper than a vet!
wink.gif
) and is excellent and the most up to date on the treatment of lami - my farrier is sure their advice/treatment/management regime saved my mare. Our shetland - Little Izzy No Legs - has to have her coat practically pulled out of her
blush.gif
and it is back again ready for winter almost immediately so I wouldn't be overly concerned by that - her winter coat is already about 3 inches thick!!
grin.gif
grin.gif
grin.gif
Izzy is about 25 but is as fit as a fiddle!!

tikino - I am so pleased Toby is picking up. Once you get everything back under control you can look at cheaper and effective management options - vets aren't very good at that!! I would put some posts in Vet etc I had loads of advice when working out the best management of the BGL's ulcers and now have a regime sorted which suits him and definatley works and is basically lots of fibre feed and one supplement which is £80 every 3 months - so its definatley do able.

thanks guys he were very worried about him early when he colics but after tubing him and meds he has settled again this little tike will be the death of me.

F_S i have an 8 year old diagnosised cushings pony and he was diagnosised 2 years ago

good news toby is feeling better
smile.gif

did they say what actually caused it was it due to worms?? if it was i'd be tempted to get money from loanee's altho that will probly never happen
frown.gif

Tikino: (((VIBES))) for your man.
F.s Bug never really has a good topline but holds weight on his tummy which i think is another cushing sign. He does not sweat or wee , drink alot though. But this coat thing of his as always really been there i have known him since he was two he does lose his coat but very slowly. I have never claimed on my insurance maybe it,s time i did and got the vet to do some thorough testing.

Thanks slinks your knowledge will come in useful i,m sure.
grin.gif
When i bought snoopy i found out that she had had lami think that is why she was very cheap, but i have managed her for 5 years and she,s the best horse i have ever had
tongue.gif
. I have been working hard in the field making a very small paddock for the bug that is linked to the stable so he can come in and out when he wants, but for now he is in.

Back again!!

Tikino - cute pony!!
grin.gif
grin.gif
My shetland's coat is thick, but not curly or clumpy, if you know what I mean!!
grin.gif
Just looked at him the other day and something just said maybe cushings! Vet out next week so I'll maybe ask her then.
grin.gif
grin.gif
He's had a touch of laminitis in the past, so we watch him very carefully too
grin.gif

Snoopysue - Laminitis is a management situation once they have had it, I have had a lot of experience, like Slinky, on laminitis management and agree the laminitis trust is fabulous for advice.
