I would love to find out history on my lot. I obviously know who I bought them from, and the mini has only been with me, but, we have one mare who has serious hang ups, and I'd love to know what happened to her.
Nixon - I am his 3rd home - came from German stud as a yearling and stayed at that home until he was 10/11, then was sold to riding school (has only schoolmasters for dressage and sj) as a schoolmaster - was hopeless as he doesn't like being schooled so went out as hireling for the rest of the season was roughed off and then came home to me!!
Inca - was bought at Appleby as a yearling, was in foal and had foal at aged 3, is the subject of an RSPCA prosecution and taken to rescue before she had foal, foal is a cute gelding called Sonic - still at rescue, and then came to me for a life of 5* luxury when she was 5!!
You could say both of them have landed on their hooves.......
Hey all, back in from friends house, my head is pounding - all my friends do now is talk about feeding, breast milk, burping, sleeping patterns, child birth, labour adn I actually felt myself switch off and thought right I'm away home - is this it from now on? Have I lost my normal friends to motherhood forever now?
It's fab that you know all about them, and amazing!! They have both landed on their hooves there!!!
I know that my mare came from Ireland, from the sales, as a four year old. She went to a dealer in the area, and I bought her. She's been with me ever since and is now 17!
The mini came to us at 10months, feral, and never handled!! I was told he lived in a barn with other shetlands (and his Mum of course), then we bought him. What a ball of fluff he was, and what a run around he gave us!!! Now he's like a dog, and he's 6.
The big mare, I bought from a dealer, she'd been hunted, jumped, and evented and was schooled to a very good standard. She was bought for my son,and she was 12. Now she's 18, has been an absolute treasure, and is definitely one in a million!!
Daughter's horse was a private sale, don't think the girl had her for very long, but was told she bought her from a breeder! Can't say whether that is true or not.
The other mare, was bought from a riding school, she wouldn't work in the school too well!! She doesn't load (unless my OH loads her), and I mean really doesn't load, but she does for him!!! and is terrified of her own shadow. She hates hose pipes, stands on he back end, and runs from anyone she doesn't know...but she is a lovely pony underneath, can clear any jump, and has been a wonderful mum to the mini.
That's as much as I know about any of mine!! Which is very little really!!
Still, thats a fair amount of history f_s! I got bitten in the face by the little toe-rag of a shetland in the field. I think I posted a photo of him a while ago. Luckily he has very small teeth and I escaped with just slobber!
With Darcy all I know is that he has hunted, is an ex-eventer and then spent 2 years on loan to an elderly woman as a hack. From my experiance - she must've been a pretty brave lady!
Well hard to say without seeing him but if you think he is fat he probably is - I don't mean that the wrong way but I think we don't notice until they cross the line from ok to fat as it haopens so quickly. Use the weight tape as a guide to make sure he is going the right way and use condition scoring as well.
I check mine all the time - if only I was so strict with myself!!
he is on weightwatchers now gona exercise him everyday whether its lunging or a hack or bit of jumping lil porker, funny how you dont notice when u see them everyday.
so ideally need to shed at least 50kgs if not more.
